Uninstall all drivers and scanning software. Switch off the comp and Scanner, restart the scanner first and then the computer, reinstall drivers and scanning software. Pls run scandisk on the Computer and ensure the OS is okay.

Try reinstalling the scanner software.

Turn off the scanner and disconnect it.

Uninstall the old software.

Reinstall the software and connect the scanner to the PC.

Failure in initialization of Scanner. Scanner is offline or , scanner is turned off.

First check if the scanner is working in 'offline' mode by 'counting' a few pages.
Connect to the comp, if SCSI is the interface, you need to start the scanner first, if USB you can connect the scanner even after comp powering on. If the scanner is not recognised, reinstall driver software and scanning software.
