Do you mean "system restore" ?

If so its under control panel, system, system restore.

If it is turned off already then you will not be able to go back to an earlier restore point.

If you have a virus / spyware issue then take note that these can also hide in system restore points so even if you wanted to restore to a point before a virus or spyware issue you would still restore the bug too !

They can also corrupt the restore points so that they wont work

Set msi 171f to factory defaults

Normally, you would press F10 or F11 at Startup to commence the Recovery Process..

Another way I have seen on some models is to tap F8, and go to a list of Startup options, and start a Factory Standards Recovery from in there, by selecting the Repair computer option.

Also ask them if it is possible to make Recovery Disk/s from the Recovery Partition in case of Hard Drive failure or System Crash.

They will tell you how to do that.

Each Computer Manufacturer has their own way of making Recovery Disk/s.

Or borrow a proper Microsoft Vista DVD(not Dell, HP, etc).
A proper Vista DVD contains all Vista versions.
The Product Key determines which Vista version gets installed.

There are 2 Vista disks: one for 32bit Operating System, and one for 64bit Operating System.

If a clean install is required with a proper Vista DVD (not HP, Dell Recovery Disks):

Go into your Bios/Setup, or Boot Menu, at startup, and change the Boot Order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the Boot Order, then reboot with the disk in the Drive.

At startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, to go into Bios/Setup, or F12 for the Boot Menu

After installation > Go to your Laptop/Computer Manufacturer's website > Drivers and Downloads Section > Key in your Model number > Look for latest Vista Drivers for it > Download/install them.

Save all Data, as it will be lost during a clean install.

How do i turn on the system restore point since the box where it says " Turn off System Restore ( disabled by Group Policy) was checked and there's no way to uncheck it?

Right click on "My Computer" (XP) and scroll down to "Properties". System Restore should be right over the General tab and just un-check "Turn Off" and click Apply. Click here for a tutorial for Win 7 and Vista http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/330-system-protection-turn-off.html

32bit vista to 64bit win7

your recovery manager files should be on drive D or other partition. if not then its gone. but the operating system cd that goes with your laptop is still better than the factory default anyway but the thing is, youll need the cd everytime you want to reformat.

if i where you, il go for 32bit win 7 since your computer used to be a 32 bit vista. no worries about making the most out of your computer since win 7 eats less than vista anyway. and go for 32 bit since your laptop is made for 32 bit.

4. Click "Repair Your Computer" if you are not already on it and then press ENTER
5. choose your country and click OK
6. On the "System Recovery Options Screen" click "Restore Application" which is the last option.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions
8. When prompted, click on "Full Factory Recovery"
9. "Next"
10. Click "Yes"
11. you will notice for a while it seems like nothing is happening, give it some time.
