Dehumidifier is not collecting water, fan working, compressor sounds like it working. I have Whirlpool AD50GUSX.

It has been working 2 weeks prior, but now at the new house in the very moist basement, around 67-70 humidity. It ran for about 6-7 hours and not a drop of water was collected. Setting was set to 40%. I noticed that the sensor would move from 50 to whatever the humidity was and would get stuck there without change for hours. Even when running AC to reduce humidity. Not sure what to do, and if the unit is a goner. Been using it for 2 years.

Be careful. run your unit at the lowest setting for about 5 minutes, unplug it then try to touch the tubing. it should be very cold. if it is not cold then it needs to be serviced.

My crosley dehum. acted the same way. It turned out to be a bad defrost thermostat on the evaporator coil.

SOURCE: Dehumidifier

Most dehumidifiers have a "Frost Guard" mounted on the condensor coil. If frost accumulates on the condensor coil the frost guard turns the compressor off until the frost melts, then comes back on again. For the dehumidifier to work properly, the surrounding (ambient), temperature must be higher than 65 degress. This temperature allows the moisture in the air to condense on the coils and drip into the reservoir without freezing up on the condensor coil. Also, if the humidity is too low, (below 45%), the same condition will occur. So it will help to keep the parameters in mind when you have this issue.

Thank you for your allowing me to advise you on this issue.

It sounds like an issue with the control bord. This dehumidifier should have a 5 year warranty through LG. You will need to have this serviced. If it is under warranty by LG they will either refer you to a local repair shop and they will pay for the repair or they will replace it if you do not have a repair shop in your area. Call them and explain the problem to them. Make sure that you have your reciept. Here is the contact information for LG:

"
It may be that the humidity level or temperature in the room where your dehumidifier is located is too low.

When the outdoor temperature is below 50 F, the indoor air will be dry even when the air inside is warm, therefore when it's cold outside the dehumidifier may collect little or no water.

Air conditioners will also remove moisture from the room, even if it's hot and humid outside, resulting in little or no moisture collecting in the dehumidifier bucket.

Some dehumidifiers have a deicer which turns off the compressor but keeps the fan running. When the compressor is off, moisture is not removed from the air. The deicer turns off the compressor when the room temperature is cold.

Some dehumidifiers do not have a deicer. If the room temperature is low enough, ice may form on the evaporator coil. The ice prevents the dehumidifier from removing and collecting water. If ice forms on coils, unplug dehumidifier until ice melts and room temperature rises."

Oil inside the water collection res

the compressor runs in oil. suspect you have a quite bad leak and loss all the gas - hence no water collection and the compressor oil is being pumped out thro the leak
