I had the same problem with my Coolscan IV. The problem ended up being the scanner, which had several broken pieces in it when it arrived. Since the Nikon repair facility in Las Angles wanted $200 plus parts to look at it and repair it, I subsequently purchased a Coolscan V and went to the Nikon site and downloaded their latest drivers (ns403en_vista.exe) - which worked (works) fine and does a beautiful job. If you follow this route, make sure that you download the correct version, i.e., the Vista version. I have been able to make the scanner work well using both the XP and the Vista Nikon drivers, since I have both an older XP desktop and a new Vista Laptop. Good Luck.
Hi Happi, Sorry but you are not going to be. I had the 9020 scanner and then I got Vista (which in my opinion was a VERY expensive mistake), and like you I could not get the scanner to work. I got in touch with Visioneer, and guess what, there are no drivers for vista. Visioneer then go on to tell me that this scanner has reached EOL. ("end of life") well I've had it three years what can I expect. Sorry for the not nice info., I had to buy another scanner to use with vista..............Thanks Bill
With the Computer. Go to Start/programs/accessories/system Tools/Compatibility and attempt to reset the computer to the Windows mode the Scanner was made for.
Be aware however that Scanners made for use with Win 95/98/ME operate under DOS commands and 2000/XP/Vista work on the NTFS system so there is a hardware not software problem. You will I feel wind up buying a Vista Compatible Scanner
