My friend has a Tristar MG1 vacuum. The cord was chewed by her dogs. I repaired the cord, matching black to black and white to white. It now sparks and trips the circuit breaker. I don't understand. I used wire nuts and electrical tape. I cut the chewed portion out so there would not be any shorts. Could this problem be inside the vacuum that we don't know about or is there something else I need to know. Thanks, kat

Chances are that there is the tiniest fray of one of the wires touching somewhere. Since you have already made a good repair with nuts and tape, feel the length of the cord for other bite marks where a puncture might short the cords. If you find such a site, **** the sheath lengthwise, tape the wires and replace them in the sheath, then tape the sheath closed.

My dog chewed the end off of the power cord (it was not plugged in at the moment.) How can I get a replacement power cord?

You would have to take your vacuum cleaner to a place that repairs and fixes vacuum cleaners in order to have the power cord to be replaced.

A possible answer is right at the letter head above, look to see if the air filter is dirty or blocked up.

Dog chewed cord on bissell model 6579-2 how do I replace it?

You can cut the bad section of wire out of the cord, cut the insulation on the cord to get to the wires. Match your colors, strip the insulation from the individual wires and twist together. Wrap each wire with electrical tape (making sure no wire is exposed, can be a fire hazard), then wrap the cord with electrical tape. The cord will be a little shorter, but should work fine.

My dog chewed through the power cord (luckily unplugged). Are there replacement parts available and I can't seem to find out to detach the cord from the unit.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. There are replacement parts available for the replacement of the power cord and to check your owner’s manual to see the schematics of the replacement of the cord. You can check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or you can call cust serv @ Bissell @ the phone # listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
