I have a similar problem with my Sony Crx320e - it reads dvd and cd okay but when I come to burn a cd-r it says to insert a plain cd-r but there is already a cd-r in the unit. Doesn't seem to recognise that fact!!?? Are there two lenses in the unit - ie one for the Dvd and another for the cd &cd-r? Help!!

CD-RW drives can only read all CD-rom and CD-RW formats and read DVD formats but cannot write to a DVD, if you want to write a DVDs you need to buy a DVD-RW burner which can burn all CD-formats
sounds like the connection is bad and if it isn't reading all your cd's sounds like your comeing to a point if it's life where it needs to be replaced ,sorry lala linda
One of the things that I have noticed about these drives have been the complications that will be experienced with the tray motor assembly. Often the gears on the tray that connect to the motor become worn from jamming and use. Another problem that takes place is that the tray never returns to the proper position once the disk is inserted.
I would like to know the age of the drive since the MTBF is only 70000poh
