I have just bought a second hand Teac x-300 pro reel to reel tape machine & not sure how to work it yet, I have just bought 7" reel tape for it, fitted 2 of them on. When I press play nothing happens, do you know why this is ? Ive also enquired about buying a main drive belt for it but it would be very helpful if I could get the manual, do you know anywhere to get a manual from ? Thanks. Glen.

One of your tapes has gone bad. It may be knotted up inside the cartridge, so that it works for a short time before becoming to difficult for the drive to spin, popping the belt - or the belt may pop seconds after you insert it. To fix this, put the belt back on and then insert each of your tapes until you find the one that pops the belt (or just sounds obviously difficult for your drive to spin), and remove it from rotation.
Btw - I'm a field engineer for a tech company that services about 800 customers on the east cost - I see (and fix) this problem, with this drive about once a day.

If you are not familiar with such work, I don't recommend trying to install belt(s). Replacing belts may involve disassembly of mechanism parts and critical adjustments to follow. Take to a pro/tech
