After reinstalling XP on T42 I can't turn on the wireless network

After reinstalling XP on my T42 I cannot turn on the wireless by means of "Fn + F5" - only Bluetooth. The T42 does not have a fysical switch on the front panel.
Also the Access IBM button does not work at all. Nothing launches when I push the button. I have tried to use a USB wireless network adapter which works fine and the machine can surfe the net again, but I would prefer to get the internal wireless adaptor to work instead.
I can see that many others users posted this problem, but I cannot find a usable solution yet on FixYa.

No wireless adapter

Hi,

Have you check the wireless card under the Device Manager?

Start->Control Panel->Device Manager

Under Device Manager look for Network Adapter there will be sub folders under network adapter look for the wireless device. If its not showing it means that the Device is not working. If you want to make sure try to reinstall the Operating System and after that check again the Device Manager.

Cannot connect to internet throught wireless networks. it used to show the networks available when it turned on but does not do this anymore i can connect through a cable running through the wireless...

This may be a really stupid response, but HPs (maybe only their tablets?) are notorious for randomly shutting down the wifi connection - I know it happens on my TouchSmart. Just as a precaution, check to see if the wireless LED is off or has turned red (on newer models it's at the top of the keyboard toward the right) and try to toggle it using either the hardware switch or Fn-key combo specific to your machine.

Hope this helps, as obvious and trivial as it may seem!

How to connect wifi network in archos 28 internet tablet

This is normal. To save energy, the ARCHOS always starts up with the WiFi set to off. You must manually use the Fn-F3 keys if you want to activate the WiFi connection.
I cannot connect to the Internet over WiFi, what's wrong? Make sure that your WiFi is activated. This can be turned on and off with the blue function key pressed down and then the F3 key. The blue WiFi indicator just below the touch-pad will light indicating that it has been turned on.
My WiFi router/modem is on and working, but it does not show up in the list of wireless networks. What's wrong? It could be that the WiFi modem/router is hiding its SSID. This is done for security purposes sometimes. You can either change this on the WiFi modem/router (see its instructions) so that it broadcasts its SSID (and then you'll see it in the list on your ARCHOS 10) or you can go into the advanced settings of the Wireless Network Connection screen to the Wireless Networks tab and 'add' a new connection. You will need to know the SSID name and its other connection parameters.
