I have a hitachi 53sbx59b 53in tv

This is a very common failure on Projection sets. Its called a convergence problem.

You may have one or more of the following symptoms.
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • No Audio / No Video - Makes Chirping Sounds

My mirror is broke in my big screen do you have to buy a special mirror or can you use any mirror?

The mirrors are specific to the unit as they have slight curves to bend the picture correctly so it aligns to the screen properly. To ensure you get the correct picture for your unit, you would have to order the manufactures original replacement part. You can order an new OEM replacement mirror for this model (53SBX59B) from a major Hitachi parts distributor at the link below:

HITACHI 53SBX59B, projection lights don't line up.

It sounds like bad solder connections in the convergence output circuit. It may also be an intermittant convergence output ic which will need to be replaced.

Crack and hole in the screen...

There are several parts distributors in the US that supply parts for Hitachi TV's You can try Herman Electronics, Tritronics and PAC parts, all have websites. Be prepared for the cost: a new screen will be in the $300-$400 range. It's not just a piece of ordinary plastic; it's actually two pieces of specially designed plastic designed to disperse the light evenly, called a lenticular and a fresnel.

Yellow spot

Good Day, dv28;
No, the lamp will not correct this. The TV has a bad light engine, it's very common for this TV and very expensive. Call the manufacture and try to get a concession for the part. They normally give it about 75% of the time.
Good Luck, big IRISH.

How to disassemble an old Hitachi projection TV (model 53sbx59b)

To remove the protection screen and lens from my Hitachi model 53SDX89BA:
1) Remove the speaker cover from the bottom. It is attached by velcro.
2) Remove the 4 screws on 4 plastic tabs on the bottom of the screen frame.
3) Remove the 4 screws on the 4 metal tabs on the bottom beneath the screen frame.
4) Pry the bottom corners loose with a wide blade screw driver and work both sides of the screen frame away from the case from the bottom up. CAUTION: The top does not snap away as the sides do. When the sides are loose let the screen frame hang down vertical and lift the screen frame straight up.
5) The protection screen and the lens will come off together.

When reinstalling the screen frame perform the steps in reverse. Be careful when resnapping the frame back onto the case - there are two small wooden support blocks on the bottom. Don't try to force the frame back on until you are sure the bottom of the frame clears these block. You may find it easier just to remove them temporarily until the frame is reattached.
