Could be failed motor, water gets in around that area and can't escape. Begins to corrode worm gear.
Sometimes the ambient temp sensor can interfere with opening roof, like give false readings then locks roof thinking it's too hot or cold.
As an emergency, you can close roof manually (see in your manual for instructions) all the tools you need are in the cars toolkit.
Resetting the windows can sometimes fix it and check the fuses. It's not uncommon for these cars to leave showroom with some incorrect fuses.
here is how we fixed our sons camera. we were having the same issue:
1. take batteries out 2. plus in USB to windows Xp computer 3. let drivers install automatically 4. open my computer 5. double click removable disk 6. it will ask to format. click yes 7. Format will fail 8. Unplug usb from the camera 9. reinsert batteries 10. turn it back on
