Hi Elvis,

The Blue back disc is CD format. The DVD laser circuit is giving you trouble. You can adjust the DVD pot some on the back of the Laser. Turn it about 3 degrees clockwise. Then put it the laser back in. Test the PS2 with no cover on, and use the white round disc from the laser drive cover to clamp a disc onto the spindle. Test DVD and PS2 Games that do not have Blue back.

My ps 3 reads a dvd disk but not my games why?

The following thread from the Play Station site discusses the issue and offers suggestions. If only one issue were involved, it might be possible to say why. You likely will have to try several fixes.

PS3 - Unable to read disc

Hi,

Follow these steps when you are facing "disc wont read" problem

Step 1:Remove the disc from the system.

Step 2:Use a cloth to clean in small circles around the disc (not in a big circle going around the disc). Use DVD or CD disc cleaner if available. If you use cleaner, use a different dry cloth to clean the disc no more than three minutes after application.

Step 3:Verify that there are no disc-destroying marks on the disc. Deep scratches and chips in the middle of the disc can render a disc inoperable. As your Playstation 3 is used more and more, the lens that reads Blue-ray discs can become dirty. This will lead to discs skipping or not being read by the console. If you find this is happening on your Blue-ray discs, either movies or games, you may need to have your console cleaned. Be careful when attempting any sort of cleaning of your console, as improper handling will further damage the Playstation 3. Contact a member of Playstation Support for information on console maintenance.

Thank you !!

PS2 will play any audio cd and any ps2 blue game disc. but it will not entertain a silver game disc or dvd. just keep getting Disc read error.

sounds like your laser is failing. You can find tutorials on how to adjust, clean or replace your laser. Do a google search for " ps22_bing.gif disc read error " it will give you a choice of plenty of tutorials to follow. Good luck

Will not read blue discs no problem with clear(silver) ones tho.

1. Apparently, blue PS2 discs are lighter than silver ones, so they tend to move around more when the PS2 is reading them. To fix this, you can put duct tape on the top of the disc. This will make it heavier, so it won't move around too much and it should make reading the disc easier for your poor PS2. People have told me that this indeed works (but not always). Don't go overboard with the tape though. Attempt at your own risk. 2. If the problems occurs when the PS2 is horizontal, try putting it into its vertical position. Or try putting it horizontal if it is vertical. 3. Use a can of compressed air to clean dust out of the system. 4. Make sure your game discs are not the problem. Keep them as clean as possible. Even small scratches can cause problems. 5. Open up your PS2 and clean it out or try adjusting the lens. Very risky and voids your warranty. 6. Try using a DVD lens cleaner (for problems reading silver discs) or a CD lens cleaner (for blue disc problems). 7. Send your system to Sony for repairs. Due to a lawsuit, Sony may have to repair your PS2 for free even if there is no warranty. Contact Sony for details. That is all the advice I can give. If the len(s) cleaners or compressed air don't work, then you are probably just out of luck. There is no magic way to suddenly get your PS2 working again without professional repair.

The trick to getting the discs to play on any PS@ (old or new) when they are black or blue is to put a piece of tape lengthwise and width wise around the hole in the disc on the topside (picture-side) of the disc. What this does is add weight to the disc and thus allows the PS2 to read it more accurately. I had bought many older titles not too long ago and was disappointed when they didn't work. Then I spoke with a Japanese expert online and he suggested using scotch tape around the hole in the disc and it worked instantly. Don't be fooled into buying a new PS2, just a roll of scotch tape. You'll only need four one inch strips.

Lee playstaytion two

Hi Lee,
Your lasers on the way out.
it,s all to do with the power output of the laser head, and the angle for reading the 2 different disk types.
i,d suggest getting a new laser fitted. not too expensive usually with older consoles. Try E-Bay :)

My PS2 Slim plays music, black and blue discs, but doesn't play silver discs nor DVDs.

Is this a new problem or has your PS2 always had this issue? You cannot adjust the laser at all and are likely to damage it if you try, you can however clean the laser lens with a CD/DVD cleaning disk and you'd be surprised how often this resolves disk read issues. Some of these units did have a production fault that prevented them from reading DVD's, if your PS2 has had this fault since new and/or is under 12 months old you could probably have had it repaired/replaced by Sony but by opening it you will have invalidated you're warranty.

Unable to read new games but can read old, used games???

Things like this are usually caused by overlooked manufacturing discrepancies. It may be best to contact Sony with your system's model info, serial number, and date of manufacture. They may be able to help you under warranty. Greg Holiday
