My tv went dead during a lightning storm. I heard

My tv went dead during a lightning storm. I heard a slight pop/sizzle just prior to it quitting. Is there a 10 cent fuse somewhere inside the back cover or was it likely something expensive?

The sound could have come from one of your power capacitors. You could tell if one of them is no longer operational by looking at them; they will be burned, or blistered, or will be bulging. If this is a CRT type of TV ensure that you only look inside if you are fully aware of how to deal with the lethal voltages that are stored on the inside of the unit.

How do i stop lightning from getting in my hdmi lines and shocking my tv? 5 tvs went down in one storm

I would recommend getting a surge protector and using that to protect your televisions. This usually will stop something the lightning from killing your tv's.. I have a surge protector and can still use my tv, computer, anything I have plugged in during a storm.

Hitachi clu-4591av stopped working - popping sound

The power supply regulator section should be troubleshooted. The "Pop" sound you heard might be of a bursted electrolytic capacitor in the AC mains rectifier section inside the TV. All the related commponets, rectifier diodes, protection zener diodes etc:- should be checked before switch ON the TV further.

Green power light flashes 3 times then repeats

The defect is likely a sensitive component to over voltage (lightning) on the main power supply. But you should not exclude other boards too, since ohter board also have local power supplies and sensitive CMOS integrated circuits. Check all MOSFET transistors on the the main power supply, since they are the most sensitives. Also the regulator IC to control the PWM sent to the MOSFET is made of CMOS (sensitive). Then check all the diodes even if they are more robust to lightning. There is a MOV that absorb the lightning that could be shorted but in your case it seems to have survived.

Sanyo DSs31820 dead after lightning storm. Is there a master reset?

A lightning storm will destroy a TV in many cases. I have repaired very few, with this problem. I would certainly find a new TV, if this is the case for sure. Thanks for asking!

Blinking light wont turn on Toshiba TV CE19H15

Yes, it's quite possible that you indeed may have sufferd from a Power Spike, induced by lightning during the storm, esspecially if plugged in during said storm. I have had quite a few customers ova the years with this exact problem. I always advise my clients to unplug ALL devices during a storm, and for ones that simply cannot be unplugged then some sort of Spike/Surge Protection device MUST be used. As a matter of interest, I have written many a report to insurance companies to support a claim for a replacement.
