Just installed a netgear rangemax wpn824v3. Everything works perfectly for the PC laptop in the house; upstairs, downstairs it doesn't matter. The problem is my powerbook mac won't connect unless I go to 192.168.1.1 and go to the "Wireless settings" under setup. Then I can undo the ethernet cable and work wirelessly. I tried downloading the latest firmware but one that was done my computer said it couldn't "mount it". Also, once I am working wirelessly I don't have a strong connection once I move from the room with the router in it. Like I said before, the other laptop in the house works perfectly. I believe it's a problem with my mac and not the router.

If the router works perfectly for the windows computer in the house and not good for the MAC, isn't the problem with my MAC and not the router?

Hi,

If you want to upgrade the firmware on the router then please do it on a hardwired windows computer. Firmware wont upload on the router through a MAC computer. I would suggest you to follow the steps below to configure settings on the router:

Scan for the wireless network on the wireless enabled computers and connect to the network.

Hope, this helps.

In that case, please update the firmware on the router using the following steps on a windows based PC:

    A. Open the router page using the following way:

    1. Connect a computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports.
    2. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
    3. Access the router usually by typing http://192.168.1.1' or http://www.routerlogin.com' in the address bar.
    4. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).

    B. Visit the following link to download the latest firmware.

    http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail...

    C. Please follow the steps to upload the firmware of the router:

    1. Open the router page using the steps mentioned above.
    2. Under Maintenance, click router Upgrade.
    3. Click Browse and locate the upgrade file.
    4. Click Upload.
    5. Wait for the router to reboot.
    6. Click on 'Logout' (at the bottom of the list) from left menu.

Also, please confirm, what security encryption is being used on the router?

How do i re-install netgear wpn824v3 w/o the cd ,i used the restore button

On any PC connected to the WPN824, open a web browser, any URL. The device automatically redirects to the configuration wizard after factory reset.

The manual can be found here: http://kbserver.netgear.com/pdf/wpn824_ref_manual.pdf - you may want to start at page 2-8 for a guide through the configuration process.

Have a new desk top bought the wireless-g usb adapter wg111 to pick up my netgear range max wireless router wpn824v3. After installing the wireless-G picked up internet once but after the system was shut...

I have the WPN824v3 and it can be balky finding and connecting to a network sometimes. It works best (and gets the best range) using the Netgear RangeMax Wireless USB 2.0 adapter (WPN111). The router and this adapter are (according to Netgear) specifically designed to work with each other, thereby maximizing both the range and the speed of the router.

I have netgear wgr614 upstairs my laptop downstairs loads pages VERY slowly what can I do

Verify that it is indeed a wifi signal problem by moving the laptop upstairs temporarily.

If this fixes the problem, you're getting poor wifi signal downstairs. Not much you can do with the elements at hand. So try adding another element: install a wifi signal repeater (around US$ 25) somewhere in the middle. Or you can run a cable (or use Powerline Ethernet - around US$ 100) to downstairs, and there install a wifi access point (US$ 30-60). Or directly connect the laptop to the newly installed network wire.

If the problem isn't fixed, you have some other problem on the laptop: most likely a faulty network configuration. Verify against whatever PC you have upstairs; they should have identical configurations except their IP address (if fixed instead of DHCP).

Just to be on the safe side verify the laptop is properly operating and immune from virus and malware. Not all slowdowns are the system's fault.

Happy navigation!

Hi, I have a digital tv plugged into an extension cable in an upstairs (Toshiba) bedroom; it works perfectly - receiving all channels. I have a digital tv downstairs (Samsung) where it seems the wall...

Hi Fiona
Somewhere along the line from the aerial there must be a signal splitter that feeds the upstair and downstair terminals.
Try to find that splitter and switch the output to see if the problem goes from up to downstair.
If it does switch then you know the problem is with the splitter block, and if it stays the same then the problem is with the cable and/or the connectors that run downstairs.
Also the reason you get a pixellated(snowy) picture is because of signal loss during the length of the cable you ran downstair.
If running a cable downstair becomes the best option to fix your problem , then you could buy a cheap 10db signal booster/r.f amplifier to correct the signal loss and a cable splitter to feed both tv`s
That booster would be installed upstair in your case(near the source of the signal to be amplified).
I could send you a small diagram if need be. Hope this will help and Merry Chrismas

Yes, adding a repeater closer to the laptop will repeat or boost the signal so you get a better signal. You can also try replacing the standard antennas with better ones.
