Do you check to see if it's belt driven? If it is your belt might have come off or needs to be replaced

SOURCE: My Admiral washer will not spin.

Unplug the washer.
Insert a putty knife between the top lid and the front panel, where the top meets the front. About 2 inches in from each side are 2 clips that must be pressed inward to raise the lid.
Once the lid is raised, remove the 2 wires from the lid switch and jump them together with a small jumper wire.
Plug the washer in again and turn the dial to spin and turn it on.
If it spins, replace the lid switch.

SOURCE: admiral top load washer wont spin

Are you saying the machine completely quits? Or it still drains and all just not spinning after the first time?

My washer will wash and rinse the clothes, but won't spin. what is the problem?

Sounds like the Thrust washer problem to me. I believe this to be basically a Maytag single belt washer. Your symtoms sounds to me like the brake package is is not releasing the tub. Their is a cam riser built into the main drive pulley on these washers. The motor runs in one direction for wash and rinse and another direction for spin and pump out. In the spin direction the brake is released and the drum can rotate. With time the main drive pulley wears out. A new pulley and washers comes in a kit to fix the problem. More here

Washing machine does not spin.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If your washer pumps out the water but doesn't spin, check these:

The lid switch may be defective. If it is, the washing machine doesn't spin. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. The motor coupler may be broken. Many washers use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. A belt may be broken. The clutch may be worn. It may use a clutch to come up to the proper spin speed. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the unit from spinning well or at all. The drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor. The transmission may not be shifting properly. The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. Replace whichever part has gone bad. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

My washer fills up then doesn't do anything.

Check the lid switch. Many washers won't work if the lid isn't closed. Without the lid switch, the machine can't tell.

Does not spin

If the washer agitates fine but won't spin, then check the lid switch. Most washers will not spin if the lid is open.
