My laptop is a 4 year old Gigabyte Q2756N V2. Within the last 6 months I've had to keep force restarting it until it starts normally from total shutdown OR restart. Today it refuses to turn on. Just has a blank off screen (no backlight) but the fan, HDD indicator, power light and sometimes the Num Lock light work. I have tried: -Replacing the CMOS battery. -Starting the laptop without the HDD to the same result. -HDD is brand new, fully defragmented and Chkdsk reports no errors of any sort. -HDD space is not an issue with 1.5TB FREE. -During this time period reformat did not solve this. -I've also tried doing Windows 7 updates which are incomplete (more to install but all others that I installed ARE installed) as my laptop will not start so starting to think it's something on my motherboard. I have been searching for so long for an answer that there is nothing that fits my scenario. Any help is appreciated. Edit: I borrowed my partner's phone which works better with this site so I could reconcile the comments into details. There is no HDMI output and leaving it on last night did nothing. Can't get BIOS settings as laptop will not start (Even to BIOS and like I said. No HDMI output so no video output whatsoever). Right now it's as dead as a doorknob. I need this laptop to apply for work so yeah any help would be awesome. 4 year old Gigabyte Q2756N V2. Edit2: @SSN-MM3, sorry about all the edits. Kept finding stuff to add. But all good now. Laptop still needs fixing though.
BIOS settings?
model laptop? age?
4 year old. Gigabyte Q2756N V2, Can't get BIOS settings as laptop won't start
pull all the components you can (including RAM and harddrive, etc). pull the battery. plug into power only into a KNOWN working outlet. does it power on? if not, the you now have a scraptop not a laptop. if it does power on, check BIOS. do a RESET toDefault for the BIOS. powerdown, then insert RAM. reboot again, goto BIOS, check info. rinse, wash, repeat with other items like hard drive, etc.
hopefully that will get you somewhere with finding the bad component
Looks like I need to take it to a tech for a rebuild. Hopefully they can fix it. Thanks.

SOURCE: Screen not working
Hi, I'm a laptop technician and if the screen is blank as in there is nothing showing on the screen at all (even when the laptop first starts up), but the laptop sounds like it is starting normally then the backlight or invertor for the laptop screen has probably failed. This is very common.
The easy way to check this is to plug the laptop into a normal PC monitor (if you can) via the monitor out port on the laptop - you may have to press Ctrl + F5 to get a display on the PC screen. If you can get the laptop to show an image on the PC screen then the main laptop itself is fine, and the problem is almost certainly a failed invertor or backlight.
Assuming you *could* see an image on the PC screen, you should then press Ctrl + F5 so that you *can't* see an image on the PC screen any more (this is very important). Next unplug the laptop from the PC monitor (if you did the above) and look VERY closely at the laptop screen. You will hopefully *just* make out a very, very feint and very dark image on the laptop screen. Bear in mind that you may need to re-boot the laptop to get a moving image that you can detect (like the Windows boot up screen for example). If you *can* see a very, very dark and feint image on the screen then the backlight has failed. If the screen is plain bright white or there is no image then the invertor has gone.
The invertor (or inverter as it is sometimes spelt) is a smaller circuit board that sits in the screen housing, the backlight is a very thin "flourescent" kind of tube light that is built into the screen itself. The invertor can be removed and replaced pretty easily by most competent people without much trouble (takes maybe 30-45 minutes to do). The backlight on the other hand is very hard to remove without damaging the screen itself and should only be attempted by a specialist laptop repair company.
Both the invertor and backlight parts are specific to the screen so you must get exactly the same to replace the faulty one with. Online auctions are a good place to get s/hand or new spares, just tap in the *exact* part number or laptop model number and you will usually find someone who has the bit you need.
I hope this helps.
