Re: Asus P1-P55T2P4 Motherboard:

Where is the CMOS Battery? I have the original manual here and have searched the board itself: no mention or sign?

wow a 1997 relic MOBO, why mess with this junk, it is now RARE! with ISA slots wow,
still running windows 98SE" or w95?

sure , all PCs made have service manual
not dirt cheap PC, they have near nothing.
that mobo is a desktop mobo.
a very old pentium 4, now a relic and near useless now, to 99.9% of persons. XP junk...
the coin cell is clear as day on the mobo if you just looked, use a flash light and look 1 more time.
    P1 is wrong , it is P/I , not P1.
ok, that is why search fails using wrong model of mobo

asus.com ever heard of them #1 maker.

1second long search there finds this
    https://www.asus.com/us/supportonly/PI-P...

    old 430HX chip set relic.
read page 3 and 4 and learn back in 1997 there is NO COIN cell then.
they used a RTC clock chip that has hidden battery deep inside that fails in 10years.
from Dallas Semiconductors inc. long ago
I have scope that uses it and an a Spare.

the photo there page 3 clearly states

    Self-PoweredRealTime Clock

cut and pasted just for you.

why mess with year 1997, love to know use?
    me. (museum >)?
the reason is simple (I know it)
intel did not have RTC inside the old chipset back then,
so Asus, used a total RTC solution, DALLAS.
see actual mobo yours below, dallas.
i REPLACE THE DALLAS, IN MY SCOPES.
    i ALSO KNOW HOW TO HACK IN A NEW BATTERY;
    ASK.

  • Larry Ng
    Larry Ng Feb 10, 2021

THE BATTERY IS DEEP INSIDE THE DALLAS rtc.
THERE ARE 3 THINGS INSIDE, THE CHIP AND A BATTERY and NVRAM ! (Some versions have 2 batteries.) not this one. just 1.
inside a master and fail over battery.
if curious (Maxim now) data sheet.
    http://pdf.datasheetcatalog.com/datashee...

circa 1995, battery, so is 26 year old battery now (worst case)
amazing no? old tech, and history
only boomers know that useless stuff. now.

why folks mess with 1995 PCs amazes me
yes it can be fixed that.
we can talk for 1 hour on topic.
lived it then,. solved them all. I did.
what I did on my scope Tektronix 2430 .
    is remove the CHIP dallas.
then put in a 24 pin machine pin grade DIP socket and plugged in the new Dallas. chip.
fixed now for 10 more years.

    or do as others did,
1: GROUND DOWN THE TOP OF THE DALLAS EXPOSING THE LITHIUM CELL. AND rip it out (cave man style) then with new coin holder and new cr2032 and new coin and wired by soldering
    the the polarity matters.
to get that correct we use magic voltmeter.
to see what pin on the old battery is +
then mark that spot with red ink pin.
here is the hack sold by lots of others and me.
    https://classic-computers.org.nz/blog/20...

done many now. and want to forget 1995 me.
but there you go, facts all.

  • Anonymous Feb 10, 2021

i hope this cost you $1 for 1995 junk
    or from dumpster dives?
it is worth ZERO now and for sure dead now.
BIOS will be DEAD like this,
my bud drilled a hole dead center and turned the mobo in to a wall clock.
with sign, below WARNING LEGACY TIME. 1995,

where you can not see , is where.
got a soldering iron and de-solder tools
i bet not, nor wish to learn.

  • Anonymous Feb 10, 2021

it failed 10 years ago, then now 2021 expect it to work, or paid 10x what it is worth?

It's the DALLAS RTC/CMOS component.

  • Anonymous Feb 10, 2021

yes, DS-12b887 , see my photos.
intel did not have NVRAM/RTC in the South bridge in 1997. is reason, evolution matters.

It has got to be there. Sometimes they mount them vertically instead of flat. It is usually the size of a quarter. Type 2032.

How can I replace the CMOS battery an ASUS laptop?

There is no replaceable CMOS battery on this model.
It is probably a rechargeable battery on the motherboard.
See Manual which only mentions the main battery pack.

How to clear cmos in asus a7n266 mb

I had similar mobo and this is what the Asus technician told me. Take out the round battery in your motherboard and flip it around and put it back into the battery slot.(it sounds weird but that is what he said) Hold it there for 20seconds and then put back in the right way it was.

Your cmos should be cleared now. Make sure your pc is switched off when doing this.

Manual reset motherboard: Soyo SY-K7VME

Bios settings are retained by the Motherboard Battery in the CMOS. Disconnecting the battery clears CMOS and returns the settings to their original state. Typically this can be done by simply removing the CMOS battery and waiting about 15 seconds before reinserting and booting PC. Nowadays most Motherboard manufacturers supply a jumper to not only disconnect the battery but also ground the CMOS to effectively drain any residual power.

The instructions for your MB are found below. JP5 is located to the left of the battery and next to the PCI 2 slot on your MB. There is a Manual for your MB on this site and the MB layout can be found at

http://www.fixya.com/support/p281070-soyo_sy_k7vme_motherboard/manual-35533/page-5

Follow the steps below to clear the CMOS memory.

1. Clear the CMOS memory by momentarily shorting pin 2-3 on jumper JP5. Its white cap can easily identify this jumper.

2. Put the jumper back to 1-2 to allow writing of new data into the CMOS memory.

Need to reset Asus k7v bios

Yes, if you consult your motherboard manual this will show you the location of the cmos battery and reset jumpers. You can either move the jumpers from pins 1+2 to 2+3 and then back again after a few seconds or remove the cmos battery for a few seconds. Make sure your pc is off!

Keyboard stays on

I would first Reset the CMOS... do this by switching the jumper pin cap from 2-3 to 1-2 then give it power/and immediately power off.. then reset jumper cap position to original spot... the jumper can be located usually near the CMOS battery.
