SOURCE: Backlight of LCD turns off
Hi,
For latitude systems they have this ambient light sensor. it basically adjusts the brightness of the screen depening on room lighting. try to go to bios by hitting F2 on the dell logo. go to video and try to look for ambient light sensor. however, im not sure if your computer has that feature I have a second option for you though. based on the troubleshooting you've done, it seems that the video back lighting is affected by movement. it would be a good try to reseat the LCD cable. you can use this link to guide you in fixing the computer : http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd505/sm/keyboard.htm
all you need to do is to take out the keyboard with 2 screw holding it in place. the LCD cable should then be accessible. it a thick cable that coming out of the Left hinge.
Hope this helps.
thanks.

The issue might be that you have to send the LHT854 Back to the manufacturers and have the playback feature replaced. The playback feature is controlled by a device that is internal and very important to the overall function of the unit.

It is most likley the cfl tubes - and - or - the inverter is bad. This will happen sooner or later with all lcd monitors that do not have the L.E.D. back lights. It is very frustrating and timely to replace the items yourself unles you absolutly know what you are doing. You should replace the inverter board with the tubes - it is recomended. I see this problem all the time. Samsung has the L.E.D. backlight and not cfl. The total cost of the DIY [ do it yourself ] will bee about $9.00 per tube [ most use 2 - some have 4 ] and about $15.00 for the inverter board - again - the inverter board could be higher if it uses 4 tubes and prices do not include a hefty shipping fee. Here is a sample link to read and a DIY document with tube sorce.http://store.lcdparts.net/ . Now the prices at this site are expensive - they also cover LCD cfl BACKLIGHT TV's - you can search the web for the proper tube but again - the tubes are like a shop light floresent tube in a really small package and very - very fragile and eay to break. Here is the site and it will explain more for you and guide you along for a reference.http://store.lcdparts.net/ . Once you have figured out a few things - try buying the items elswere . A standard 14" lcd monitor wit 2 tubes and an inverter will cost you a min. of about $50.00 + or - if you shop around. Hope this helped you a little and here is the LCD Backlight Link. http://store.lcdparts.net/ Kevin

I just fixed my today, you need to replace the LCD controller board, there are two versions (V320B1-C, 35D003848) you need to open up the tv and remove the shield cover to get to the LCD controller board, this is a common problem with this model. Look here parts (make sure to get the part number of the LCD panel sticker to match wit the LCD controller): http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=LTV-32W3HD&stock=all
You cam see the one I fixed here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/LTV-32W3HD/
Notes: be real careful when you remove the back cover, the side switch assembly is attached to the back panel, so do not pull it off too far, or you will damage the switch assembly!
