Unfortunately the laser can die after only two or three uses. But most of these players have at least a year warranty. I recommend taking back to the place of purchase.

Testimonial: "Hi Mike, Actually this player had only 6 months warranty which has passed now. I have used CD or DVD only 2 times in it as I mostly used it through USB port using pen drive. I am wondering if this issue can be due to flex cable fault if flex cable has different lines to supply power for CD laser diode and DVD laser diode ?"

the cable, if it has the right ends on it allowing it to plug into the equipment correctly, will have the correct wiring configuration. But those cables can and do go bad on a regular basis. Power is through one pair of cables and data goes through another. There are multiple issues that can cause the reader to stop functioning. Try a CD and a DVD. If one works and the other doesn't oh, it is likely your laser reader. But to answer your follow-up oh, the cable can be the problem.

I'm afraid you are dealing with a weakened Laser on the unit. The cost vs. benefit ratio of fixing this unit is not worthwhile.

You will find that there are newer versions of this device on the market less expensive than what you paid for the unit you have now.

Try doing a factory reset on the unit see if that clears the problem.

Disc shows loading then error on all dvd disc

Put a cd in the dvd player if it is marked that it plays cds... if it plays the cd your dvd laser is shot... cheaper to get a new unit. if it doesn't play a cd try cleaning the laser. and last but not the last thing try unplugging it for a short time then plug it back in... if nothing works get the one tool that fixs most everything...... take it to office depot and they can recycle the stuff inside and help keep the earth green...then onto wally world.

Philips DVP5140 region-free DVD player: NO DISC

You could try cleaning the laser using a laser cleaning disk. Most of the time when it cant read a disk its just because the laser is dirty. If that doesn't work it could just be a faulty laser

DVD Player Error Message

I have this problem.. I put in a DVD that I know it has read ok before. But, now it takes a long time trying to load and then it just stops trying and returns 'NO DISK" So, I opened it up and watched it try to load. The motor on the DVD drive was struggling and couldnt keep the disk spinning a the correct speeds. Now, I am looking for a drive replacement. I hope this helps.

DVD player/recorder not working at all

Unplug for atleast 15min and turn back on, if this doesn't work you will have to take top off and get a small philips screwdriver and take of carriage on top of tray and manually take disc out and find out what is causing the problem. If the reset does not get it.
