XHi, it could be possible, you've got a defrost problem, possible faulty defrost heaters, defrost timer, or faulty thermodisc(defrost thermostat) if you think defrost stays on too long, then you can replace your thermodisc, first, remove screws and back panel in freezer compartment, where fan located, if you encounter excessive ice, take your time, give it little time to melt( thaw) out, check on evap coil, you will see a device round clip on to evap tub, connected by two wires, buy one and replace, also note it's always better to replace defrost timer and defrost thermostat at the same time, but before you do any repairs, you should unplug ref, remove all produce, clean and make sure all ice melted, after few hrs, plug it back on empty, let it work for about 50 mins then put back your produce, you could be experiencing moisture buildup, when days are hot, or when room temp are high, or when you used ref regularly, hot air gets inside and could cause excessive ice build up, that could make ref, malfunction, good luck.

Refrigerator does not freeze enough

Lets have a look at rear wall of freezer, is there frost building up? Usually in top freezers the cold air settles to bottom and you don't notice fresh food section until about a day. If frost is building open fresh food sections door and in control panel=> CLICK HERE see item 257 in photo? That is WR9X565 or 311082 Defrost Timer Just below that is the control panel cover and you should have a small plastic plug covering a hole just below the defrost timer. Pry plastic plug out and using a flathead screwdriver turn the defrost timer clockwise slowly. Once you hear the compressor and fans stop stop turning timer and about a minute later you should hear some crackling noise coming from freezer. Allow to stay like that for up to 30 minutes and timer should come out of defrost and compressor and fans should start again on their own. If this action caused defrost then replace the defrost timer. If that does not seem to cause defrost the we need to go to step two, unplug and place items in a cooler or alternate refrigerator and use a hair dryer to assist in melting the ice behind rear panel. Remove rear panel in back of freezer and see => Freezer Components item's 621 and WR51X10038 or 880036 Defrost Heater Assembly
You will need to remove rear panel and work with refrigerator unplugged from power. On this=> Page watch how to test your defrost element just beside a photo of the timer. Most times I replace the defrost thermostat while inside freezer wall but I will let you try this first and please respond and rate, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Fridge wont get cold

DEFROST HEATERS2_bing.gif IN THE FREEZER. IF THERE IS FROST ON THE BACK WALL INSIDE THE OF THE FREEZER SECTION. YOU THEN HAVE A DEFROST PROBLEM. REMOVE THAT PANEL AND DEFROST WITH HAIR DRYER. THIS FROST IS BLOCKING THE AIR FLOW TO THE REF. SIDE. AFTER THIS IT WILL WORK FOR 10-21 DAYS WITH OUT REPLACING A PART. THERE IS A BROWN AND ORANGE WIRE TO THE DEFROST SAFTY THERMOST. THE CONNECTOR ON THAT BROWN WIRE MAY HAVE FROZE APART. THE DEFROST SAFETY THERMOSTAT MAY HAVE FAILED. OR CONTROL BOARD MAY HAVE FAILED. BEHIND THE KICK PLATE IN A BAG ATTACHED TO THE BOTTOM OF YOUR REF. CABINET IS A TECH SHEET ON HOW TO FORCE A DEFROST TO CHECK THE SYSTEM.

Freezer builds up with frost about every 60-75 days. have to empty the freezer and allow to thaw for a few hours

I think I can assume the freezer isn't a "frost-free".
A short physics lesson; hot air holds more moisture than cold air; hot air will flow from a warm area to a colder area, and the colder area will cause the moisture to condensate and freeze(if colder area below freezing, as a freezer should be), causing frost build up.The more often the freezer is opened, the more frost will build up.
Now for 3 possibilities:1) If it is a self-defrosting type, check your defrost timer control...not working, or not working often enough.2) Door seals damaged and need replacement.3)Make the kids stay out of freezer.

Same problem

If after cleaning your condenser coils at the back or bottom, checking your cold control dial, checking your door gaskets for leaks using the dollar bill technique and looking for some resistence when pulling it out, checking for any obstructions, etc. nothing works, then you will need to have it service - most common problem is defrost timer - If your defrost doesn't cycle on, your evap coils will frost over excessively and you will not get sufficient cooling - you can usually rule this out by turning off your fridge and manually defrosting them with a blowdryer until they are frost free and running your fridge again for a few hours to 24 hours and check the temps again (during this time I'd set the dial to coldest) and monitor regularly, if your temps are getting colder and colder (fridge below 40F and freezer below 0F, then your problem is a faulty defrost timer - or one of its related components. (Remember to set your dial to what it was)

If not - then next common thing is door gaskets and finally a sealed system leak, maybe a tiny one and very slow progressing one,a lthough I would be inclined to think this is not it at this point, but if you get it serviced the first thing they should check is evap fan for proper operation, defrost timer, door seals and then compressor.

I hope this helps.

My GSS22SGRE sise by side freezer & refrigerator temp is too warm

The defrost function on your refrigerator has malfunctioned. It is a possibility that That it could be the heating element, the temp sensor, or the main board. I am posting a couple of videos to help you out.
This next video will show you a defrost issue in a top bottom fridge and explain how a refrigerator functions. Now all fridges function on the same principle on cooling and defrosting however the only difference you will usually find is location of the coil whether it is a side by side or freezer on the bottom.

Freezer works but fresh food seems warm

If you have frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment you have a defrost problem. When the freezer coil does not defrost the refrigerator does not get air for cooling.
