Question about Samsung Televison & Video

1 Answer

Samsung UN55JU7100FXZA Tv had went out during Florida thunderstorm even after being connected through a surge protector -- no power and no stand by light on. Tried to troubleshoot through DIY videos, and tested power on the power board. No fuse blown; when disconnected from motherboard, backlight turns on; adequate power seems to be getting through the board after testing pins from cable through a meter; and cant see any visible darkening or enlarged areas on either side of each board. Would you consider replacing both the power and mother board? Other suggestions much appreciated - Thanks in advance!

Have you checked your monitor? Try your monitor on another PC and check it is OK. Once you change the MB battery you effectively "Kill" the PC, as all the settings in the BIOS are removed and must be reprogrammed. You must enter the BIOS, and select "Default" setup and then reboot, you must do this regardless of what else is done first.(A bit hard when you can't see anything" You say... "tried different power switch and ribbon cable connector" (sic) exactly what "Ribbon cable/Power switch"? Anyway as said check monitor, if it is OK, we will proceed from there, then, you must check your video card, test it in another machine, if possible, to see if thats OK, if it is OK, then it is now likely that you may have a Mother board problem. If you can, try another Video card to see if you get Video on screen. see we need to establish "Known Good" items, once we know whats what, we can then go on. Now if any of these things tested are faulty, Monitor, Video card, obviously replace them, however IF they are NOT faulty, as related it may be the Motherboard, Remove the RAM, and see if anything is on screen? If yes, replace RAM, If still NO, then take any cards out, and check, if then OK, replace cards one by one until you get to the one that stops it, there is your problem, replace it. All we are trying to do is get anything on the screen, if we do, then you must redo the BIOS, as related before. Now if you get it going it still may not boot through to windows desktop, if this is the case, after you boot press F8 and select safe mode, when you get asked if you want safe mode or system restore, choose system restore and choose a date before you had a problem that should get you back. You just have to logically work through, until you find the faulty "bit" and replace it.

The fuse is internal nearest the point of where the 120VAC contacts the power supply. The fuse will be brand specific BUT will be a slow-blow ceramic (white). Replace with only the exact same rating of fuse to avoid fires within the tv.

Hope this helps and please rate!

SOURCE: 50HP95 Toshiba Plasma TV No power but blinking power light

I had the same problem with my 50HP95 Toshiba Plasma TV. It would not turn on. I read online that if you unplug a connection on my TV and it turns on, it is a bad Seine board. I could not find this Seine board anywhere online. It was either out of stock or no longer available. The TV is just 5 year old. Why would they discontinue parts for it? Then I saw a video on You Tube where someone unplugged a connection in the back of his TV to fix problem. I decided to try it. I took the back off, unplugged a connection numbered PJ63A and the TV works again. So far so good. I downloaded the Service manual for this TV to find where PJ63A was.
I also called Toshiba Tech Dept. to find out if there was a chance I can cause further damage to my TV. They had no idea.

Lightning strikes and near misses and power outages can create mains borne voltage spikes and surges that frequently damage sensitive electronics. These days almost everything is a computer or contains a computer that uses extremely sensitive CMOS chips.

Electronics manufacturers don't make things better than they need to be for obvious reasons and so it is up to the user to protect appliances from damaging surges by using the most expensive of these with a surge protector and by using an area protector.

Since the penny dropped and I invested in a surge protector I haven't needed to replace my answering machine...

How do I fix my Vizio Television after a thunderstorm?

You TV was victim of power surge. You should take it to a qualified repair service to diagnose it, it it it can be repaired and if it's worth.
Curren flat panel electronic TVs are particularly sensible to power surge so it might be a good investment to use spike protectors.

I have seen a few cases when all that is necessary to repair would be to replace the power fuse. In worst cases transistors and resistors will be blown. You will have to find a TV tech to inspect the power supply. Give me a few hands and thanks for asking!

Check the main fuse in the power supply, the TV also has small surge protection devices (MOVs) installed after the fuse, any surges the come along and big enough will cause the main AC fuse to blow. When you surge protector, EVERY connections must go through the surge protector, for example, the AC cord of the TV is connected to the surge protector, the cable connection did not go through the surge protection, the surge then can get to the TV through the cables.

Does my samsung tv keeping turning itself off because of not having plugged it into a surge protector or is it more a fault with my tv

It is a fault with your power supply module actually inside the tv...take it to a local service center or if its under warranty take it back. surge protectors help prevent issues like this occuring due to damage to the power supply from surges but not having one wont cause these problems unless it has recieved a surge.....in future i would use a surge protector on all your expensive appliances, surges and power fluctuations are very common in mains power i live near the mines and we have power problems all the time!! hope this helps, ben

Went all white, then no pix suggests you lost the 200volt
source B+ that goes to the RGB pcboards = one on end of each CRT.......Some websites offer SM's = search your Model # then service manual.........HTH>...........T.

Wii

Salutations Bloopdinkle,

Do you know if your Wii is connected to a surge protector? You can get power surges at many times especially when the power goes out, or even comes back during a storm.

If you do have a surge protector connected you may want to see if your fuse needs to be reset. If not I don't think that the Wii's manufacture's would cover surge damage.

Sorry I didn't have happier news.

Transformer

Several things have happened. 1st have you tried plugging the monitor in the wall and not in the surge protector. 2nd does your power button or LED light uo when you power it on? You have stated the transformer is bad due to lighting strike. Have you replaced the transformer? Your monitor should be coverd under the surge protector warranty. Please answer questions and we will go from there.
