Clear your Yahoo Messenger cache

1. In the notification area located next to the clock at the bottom-right corner of your screen, right-click the Yahoo Messenger smiley icon, then select Exit.
   
   • Note: Windows 7 and Windows 8 users may have their "Messenger smiley" icon hidden in the notification area; if so, move your cursor over the up arrow in the notification area to display the hidden icons, right-click the Messenger smiley icon, then select Exit.
2. On your keyboard, press the key combination Windows + R.
3. Type cmdand press Enter.
4. Copy one line at a time from the list of command prompts below, then right-click within the Command Prompt window to paste the command.
   
   • After pasting each command, press Enter on your keyboard.

Note: If you receive the "The system cannot find the file specified," continue with the next command. These errors are harmless.

1. Click the X button to close the Command Prompt.

If you get an "access is denied" error follow this process: Substitute this for step 3 above - Start ' Programs (or All Programs) ' Accessories.Make sure to right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator, and then continue with step 4 above.

Hey.

It is possible that someone has accidentally uninstalled Yahoo! Messenger.

Try going to My Computer > C:/ > Program Files > Yahoo! > Messenger and here look for an icon of a smiley face :) that reads Yahoo! Messenger. Try to open that. If it doesn't work or if it's not there someone messed with your files.

In which case go to Yahoo.com click on Messenger on the left hand side and reinstall the Yahoo! Messenger application.

You might have had un-ticked the option when you installed Yahoo Messenger and that's the reason why the shortcut is missing on desktop. To put an Yahoo Messenger icon on your desktop you can go Start, Programs and Yahoo Messenger folder. Right click on the smiley application and select send to and then Desktop (create shortcut).

you can never download yahoo messenger without smileys..:D it is inside the package of the installer

1) You need a yahoo account to be able to sign into Yahoo
2)You invite friends as contacts -so you can IM (Instant Message) when you are on line together
3) The Smiley Messenger logo (with "Yahoo Messenger" underneath) should have been installed on your desktop as part of the installation process - if its not there > Start > All programs > Yahoo > Messenger
If you can find the Messenger file there with a smiley logo on it - right click it and select 'Send to desktop - create shortcut'

Yahoo! has released some previews of its newly rebuilt Messenger application for Windows Vista. Yahoo! built this version of Messenger from the ground up, and uses pretty much all of features you are used to, but with a few little tricks. Features in the new Vista version include instant messages, voice, and video. Contacts from your Live Messenger can be added to Yahoo!, and you can see and interact with them as expected. Conversations can be organized with tabs through dragging and dropping. Of course there will be some added eye and ear candy with additional emoticons, sounds and interface customization. Yahoo! has a video preview of the Messenger application running in Vista, which you can check out here. Pretty cool! Yahoo has been really going all out lately trying to steal back some market share, and I'm sure they will steal some with this rebuild. Good job Yahoo!
