Sodium plays a key role in your body. It helps maintain normal blood pressure, supports the work of your nerves and muscles, and regulates your body's fluid balance.
A normal sodium level is between 135 and 145 milliequivalents per liter (mEq/L) of sodium. Hyponatremia occurs when the sodium in your blood falls below 135 mEq/L.
Many possible conditions and lifestyle factors can lead to hyponatremia, including:

sodium is a necessary electrolyte, electrolyte imbalance will cause many uncomfortable symptoms... Pounding heart, fatigue, confusion, and a craving for salty foods (if you didn't have that already.)

Salt deposits beside the Dead Sea. Common salt is a mineral substance composed primarily of sodium chloride (NaCl), a chemical compound belonging to the larger class of ionic salts; salt in its natural form as a crystalline mineral is known as rock salt or halite. Salt is present in vast quantities in the sea where it is the main mineral constituent, with the open ocean having about 35 grams (1.2 oz) of solids per litre, a salinity of 3.5%. Salt is essential for animal life, and saltiness is one of the basic human tastes. The tissues of animals contain larger quantities of salt than do plant tissues; therefore the typical diets of nomads who subsist on their flocks and herds require little or no added salt, whereas cereal-based diets require supplementation. Salt is one of the oldest and most ubiquitous of food seasonings, and salting is an important method of food preservation.
Some of the earliest evidence of salt processing dates back to around 6,000 years ago, when people living in Romania were boiling spring water to extract the salts; a saltworks in China has been found which dates to approximately the same period. Salt was prized by the ancient Hebrews, the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Hittites and the Egyptians. Salt became an important article of trade and was transported by boat across the Mediterranean Sea, along specially built salt roads, and across the Sahara in camel caravans. The scarcity and universal need for salt has led nations to go to war over salt and use it to raise tax revenues. Salt is also used in religious ceremonies and has other cultural significance.
Salt is produced from salt mines or by the evaporation of seawater or mineral-rich spring water in shallow pools. Its major industrial products are caustic soda and chlorine, and it is used in many industrial processes and in the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride, plastics, paper pulp and many other products. Of the annual production of around two hundred million tonnes of salt, only about 6% is used for human consumption; other uses include water conditioning processes, de-icing highways and agricultural use. Edible salt is sold in forms such as sea salt and table salt which usually contains an anti-caking agent and may be iodised to prevent iodine deficiency. As well as its use in cooking and at the table, salt is present in many processed foods. Too much sodium in the diet raises blood pressure and may increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. The World Health Organization recommends that adults should consume less than 2,000 mg of sodium which is equivalent to 5 grams of salt per day.

My pool is definatly oversalted but the pump keeps showing low salt. When tested it shows no chlorine. Is this two diferent problems or all related to the same and how do i fix it?


Low salt alarm also comes from having the electrolytic cells "dirty" of calcium/sodium build up.. Check and soak/clean with vinegar.. Shold solve the low salt alarm.. Hope this helps???

The Compupool CPSC/CPA Series is recommended to run at a salt concentration of 3500 ppm. If you are not installing a Compupool unit, check your manufacturer's instructions for their recommended level of concentration . Use a salt that is at least 99.8% pure NaCl. The preferred salt is an evaporated, granulated, food quality, NON-iodized salt. Avoid using salt with anti-caking agents like sodium ferrocyanide, also known as yellow YPS (prussiate of soda. These cause some discoloration of fittings and pool surface finishes. DO NOT use calcium chloride.

Using a salt water test strip, measure the current salt level of your pool. For the Compupool generators, ideal is 3500 ppm. If the level is low, determine the number of gallons in your pool and add salt according to the Salt Table. For example, if your pool has 15,000 gals of water and your current salt level is 2500, you need to add 125 lbs of salt.

The pool is still cloudy even with all chemicals balanced and a clean filter? I tried the clarifier stuff too and its still like chalky. How can i get it crystal clean?


Follow these steps ... let the CL go to zero ... add a sequestering agent to get the metal out. Follow container instructions ... run the filter 24/7 (deferring to the instructions on the sequestering agent.) When the metal is out, get your calcium to 300 ppm, get your alk to 100, get your cyanuratic acid to 70 - 90 ppm, get your pH to 7.2/7.4 and introduce 2 to 4 ppm of CL. Do this in this order over the course of 2 days. Dont dump all this stuff in at once and expect good results.

If Cal is more than 300 ppm, dump some water and add new. What is the Cal level in your fill water? Be aware of that number as you adjust.

Use Sodium Bi Carb to increase your Alk
Use Sodium Carb to increase your pH
Use dry or liquid acid to reduce Alk and/or pH as necessary

Get the Alk set first before you try to adj the pH.

The Cyanuric acid will protect your CL from the sun.

You cannot run your filter too long! Backweash only when the pressure raises 10 lbs from the new fresh startup pressure. Doing so before is wasteful of chemical and defeats the filter process.

If you are using salt, get the water as I said before you turn on the salt cell. Add salt per instructions on the bag. Use pool/food grade salt only!
