It is good that you have the keys. Google search your manufacturer make and model and the word manual. If one is available, you can find it in the search results.

How do I change the battery on a winchester gun safe door?

Winchester uses several different brands of locks. You need to be more specific as to the lock that is on your safe. However, most batteries are contained in a housing on the under side of the code entry pad.

S&G batteries are usually removed by simply pulling slightly forward on the tab on the housing on the base of the lock. The housing will then drop down and you can change the battery.

Some locks will actually have the battery contained inside the code entry pad housing which can be removed by grasping the entire key pad housing and rotating the housing a few degrees counter clockwise, and then pulling the unit straight toward you.

Some locks may require you to remove a screw, but most do not.

A more specific description of which lock is installed in your safe will allow for a more specific answer. A picture also helps.

I have a sentry A5848 with a damaged battery housing. The safe works but I would like to find a new battery housing/holder for it.

As a locksmith i agree that it sounds like all you might need is a new Sentry Safe battery pack to hold the batteries. As these sometimes short out from leaking batteries.
