Question about Makita 12? Metal Cutting Saw # LC1230

Open Question

I purchased the Makita LC1230 Cold Cut Saw today, when I took it out of the box I noticed the box bottom was covered in an Oily Substance The leak appeared to be coming from the main body of the saw.

I immediately took it back to the shop they were going to swap it with another LC1230, that was sitting on display, but that also had a pool of oil which had leaked from the main body onto the base plate. I wouldn't think this normal but hey I could be wrong, any advice? Thanks in advance.

SOURCE: leak onto floorboard

Here is what all dealers do to find water leaks, we spray a fine mist of water on the car near where the water might be comming in with a spray nozzle, someone gets inside the car and look for the leak, there is no other way, and I have been doing this 30 years.

Look around the sides of the motor. Aleros are famous for faulty pan gaskets. Ours has been in the shop twice for this. If the mechanic doesn't get it put in just right it will continue to leak.

Battery operated candle won't work. I took out the batteries and I noticed an oily substance. Still doesn't work with new batteries. Why?

Check your contacts where the batteries go in. The substance is likely corrosion from old batteries you left in too long. The contacts could be rotted off or not working any more.

Noticed an oily substance on the left front came out but cannot see where coming from -checked the oil and that is fine

More than likely it is leaking a few drops of engine oil either trough the valve cover gasket or from one of the valve cover bolts. more like the valve cover. Could be just loose. Check the bolts for torque.

Freezer and frig not as cold

It sounds like the heater that automatically defrosts the unit may have failed. Before calling service I recommend checking the following: all door seals, make sure they are closed and sealing properly, also the condenser coil either on the back or bottom of the machine should be vacuumed out regularly to get rid of dust buildup. If that's all good it may be the defrost heater and if you're handy you can look up on youtube how to replace it or call a professional.

Makita gas saw has too much gas entering the carburetor

The fuel inlet needle in the carb is leaking, replace the needle with a new one, the needle is rubber tipped and will wear espesially on a power cutter due to dust in the fuel tank, when replacing the diaphram make sure the gasket goes to the carb first followed by the diaphram and cover, the gasket is used as a spacer, so if the diaphram goes on first it will be too close to the metering lever and will leak.

Fridge leaking oil on the bottom right side

OK, usually if you see an oily substance that you are sure is not from the fridge contents it's oil from the sealed system. When a leak in the sealed system happens the refrigerant gas leaks out and the lubricating oil also leaks out. I'm afraid you may be in this situation. As the refrigerant leaks out the cooling efficientcy drops off quickly and eventually there is no cooling at all. You would have to use a refrigerant leak detector "sniffer" to locate the leak and then have a certified company repair the unit. Sadly, the cost to do a compressor replacement and leak repair is 2/3's or more the cost of a new fridge...
