First run the dryer for a few minutes and check the interior to see if it is warm. If it is warm check the airflow at the outside vent with the dryer running. if the airflow is good, Then it depends if it is an electric or gas dryer. For a gas dryer suspect intermittent coils on the gas valves. (a common problem) Check and see if the drum rotates when you quickly open the door with the dryer running. On Kenmore dryers the motor will still run without the drum turning if the belt is broken. If it does not heat up at all suspect the thermal fuse ( The number 1 cause of no Heat on gas dryers). Also make sure the gas valve is open.

If still heating, clean out vent and check for kinks. Also, REMOVE PLUG FIRST!! Remove back and remove four screw holding filter duct assembly at bottom left. Pull duct toward rear and reach into bottom of duct and remove lint. Also, wash out filter screen.

If the venting is clogged this will happen. And that is a good thing because it is a safety measure built in to prevent fires. There is a thermostat that can tell when your dryer is over-heating,(usually caused by clogged venting by lint) and this devise tells the heating element to turn off so as not to create a fire. Clean out venting, inspect thermostats and element, replace if neccesary. You may only have to clean out the venting.

it sounds like a clog in vent.if yours vents up thru roof you may need to have a chimney sweep come out and sweep vent.check and make sure the vent hose is net kinked or full of lint.

SOURCE: My Sears Kenmore, 2 years old washing machine is ripping clothes

If this has a paddle, check it for a sharp edge, also make sure it is not loose, the top cap should be able to be pulled off to see the locking
bolt, and you can check to see if it has loosened.

Feel everywhere on the inside of the washer for a edge that might be catching your cloths. You can also try the gentle cycle and see if it does not rip them.

You did not post the model# ,so I have no clue what style it is.

Dryer heats up, but does not dry clothes. Vent is clean

1_1_2012_4_25_55_pm.jpg

As you can see, your heating element has 5 heating coils. If one or more of these coils have opened you dryer will still work and heat but not at well as it would if all coils worked together. You can check each coil with an ohm meter to verify if one or more is open.

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

I have exactly the same problem!

Try using the tub clean cycle and use a good dose of bleach or vinegear. Here is how to run the tub clean cycle.

To start the TUB CLEAN cycle:
1. Remove any clothing or items from the washer and close the door.
2. Open the dispenser drawer and add liquid chlorine bleach to the bleach compartment.
NOTE: Do not add any detergent to the detergent compartments. Excessive suds may be produced and leak
from the washer.
3. Close the dispenser drawer slowly.
4. Power On and then press the Extra Rinse button for 3 seconds. (Prewash option will be selected.)
5. Press the Start/Pause button to start.
6. After the cycle is complete, leave the door open to dry around the washer door opening, door seal and
door glass.

Dryer Gets Too Hot!

Could be the heat switch on the motor or a grounded heat element

Dryer cuts off before clothes are dry.

Might be the thermal protector in the motor that is shutting down the dryer, if motor overheats this is what will happen. Make sure there is no lint build up around the motor, if not the motor is bad. does the dryer start right away after shutting off or do you have to wait? If you have to wait the motor is bad.
