I have fixed a camera or two that would not shoot by checking battery to camera contacts and adjusting accordingly.

If you mean that it just seems like off, click on "display" button on the little menu wheel just beside the LCD, may take a few clicks.

If you mean you want it to show you the image, Im sorry, a230 does not have Liveview option. Try with a330

Quantaray makes lenses with a variety of mounts. If you specify a lens with a Sony mount then it will fit on the alpha 230. If you get a lens with a Nikon mount, for example, then it won't fit on a Sony.

a firmware update error appears to have trashed your main circuit. usually this requires replacement of the circuit and initialization of the new circuit and downloading of data for it will work, which requires software not available from Sony. I am afraid from what you say this sounds like a factory repair - though I would argue with them that you did everything right and they ought to fix it for free

The SteadyShot function of the Camera is "off". When using Menu to access steadyshot it is in gray (not black),and I cannot change it to "on". Any ideas?

I have a sony a 230 camera the halfway focus won't work anymore, any fixes?

Check that the camera or lens AF/MF switch hasn't moved to MF.
This will turn off the auto focus on the camera.
You can see them both in this photo.

My sony a230 pictures are not centered its the middle target is more to the left, how can i fix this?

I had the same issue. I believe that our cat knocked the camera off of our coffee table, a distance of only 16 inches or so. I searched the Internet for any possible solutions but found nothing specific. I did see some comments on parallax issues. I tried everything I could think of and finally resorted to sending it to Sony for repair. I am still waiting to get it back from Sony but the repair only cost $108.00 including return shipping. Sony called me last night and informed me of the progress. It was a little hard to understand the gentleman but he said it was something to do with a "shooter" part. My recommendation is to send it to them for repair.
