SOURCE: Using a tube pre amp with my CA Azur 640A?

There are many answers to your questions but Ill have a go with the basics...
Audio connections should be matched.... its called Frequency impedance,.... to get a signal along wires or cables (or Fibre) the Impedance of the cables and wires must be matched to the device they are connected to transfer the signal along the cables without distortion...

Manufacturers provide many sockets on the input side of amplifiers and preamplifiers to allow the consumer to connect various devices of different impedance.

They label these inputs like CD, or Tuner, or PHONO etc etc,

That means if you have a CD player it must be plugged into the CD input socket then the impedance will be correct and the sound will transfer along the CD cables correctly, without distortion..same with the Phono input etc...
You will find on the sound output to the speakers terminals are also labelled 4-6ohm, or 8-10ohm, these are the impedance expected for the coil ratings of the speakers them selves and its important to get the correct speakers to the correct out put terminals...

In your case all you have to do is follow these simple rules and all will be well....you say you have a squeeze box well there probably isnt a port labelled squeeze box so you need to experiment and try out each input port for the squeeze box to see what input gives you the correct sound output...Watch the Phono inputs as these are very sensative to input sound levels and must be treated very carefully as they have a double stage of sound amplification and as such you need to have the volume right down when connecting up the Phono inputs then increase the volume carefully after the cable connections are completed.

If you follow these rules then all will be well,,,,there is no difference if the Pre amp or Power amp is valve or transistor or FET or has IC outputs to the speaker the same impedance rules apply..just treat it as a box with input and output terminals and all the impedance will be taken care of for you...if you read the lables...

You need to connect you signal source to the Preamp inputs the out put from the Preamp connects to the power amp input then the power amp output goes to the speakers. this is a basic configuration for sound systems, there are other variations but are outside this discussion.

SOURCE: cannot record

Im having the same probz, got a Hp Pavilion Vista using mobile pre amp usb when i record using a condenser mic XLR nothing is picked up from the channels in Cubase or Nuendo. Im trying to record vocals but the Mic is not picked up and i cannot hear myself in the headphones and it wont transfere to cubase.

It has worked before when i had a desktop, but this only worked with a separate m-audio sound card inside the desktop and i plug in the output jax leads from the desktop (soundcard) to the m-audio usb pre amp

Is this why it is not working for the laptop do i need a Jax connection and where is this audacity

SOURCE: Selecting phono preamp for Onkyo HT-R510

The magnetic cartridge preamp should work with the turntable, as presumably it will have a magnetic cartridge in it. The only reason that the amp states "magnetic" is that some very old turntables have ceramic cartridges which should not be connected to that terminal. Even if the turntable had a "ceramic" it could be replaced with a magnetic one!

SOURCE: I recently aquired a used rotel rx102 stereo

If the receiver doesn't have a function specifically named PHONO, yes. Very few AVR's have phono preamps. They're not expensive. I'd check eBay.

SOURCE: Hi, My Ibanez AEL 20

Remember that while in tuner mode, the audio output is disabled. Try additional presses of the tuner button to see if the audio comes back on. Also verify the volume and EQ gains are turned up. Verify the battery is new.

Yamaha 5830 rcvr will play electric violin thru AUX jack but not electric guitar; do I need a pre-amp?

Yes, an aux jack is looking for a powered input. An electric guitar is just a passive input, like a microphone.

If you're interested, a solution and a great upgrade would be to get a wireless guitar input (battery powered). The wireless receiver would likely have an RCA output that would work with your receiver. Solves your preamp problem and you have a wireless guitar.

Zener diode and hum in guitar amp

It could be the diodes, but whatever is the cause it's before the pre-amp section. Generally a loud hum such as that with no effect by volume control, is mostly caused by the filter capacitor in the power supply. And that hum is the 50HZ mains hum getting into your system!

Hi, I have an RBX 374 and I cannot get any sound from it. I have got the wiring scheme but the wiring looks O.K. Some say it might be the pre-amp. Does anyone know what could be the problem...

i dont' see where this model has active pickups (guessing this is what you mean by pre-ampped).
The issue can be in a few places.

1) the strings could be too far from the pickups and the instrument needs to be tuned.
2) the pickups are bad
3) your jack is bad
4) the cable is bad
5) your equilizers are not corrected
6) your volume control is turned down or damaged
7) your amp is damaged

this is a small list of the basic possibilities.

I KNOW WHAT THE INPUT 1 AND 2 ARE USED FOR . BUT WHAT ARE PRE OUT AND POWER IN USED FOR. PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND. THANKS DAVE

If one choses to use an external amplifier one takes the pre out and connects that to the in of the external amp.

If one uses an external mixer and wants to use the amp and speakers in the cabinet, the output of the mixer is connected to the Power Amp input.

HINT: DO NOT use these jacks... the jacks have switch contacts that pass the preamp to the power amp and if you use the jacks, sometimes these contacts fail and then you have to open the amp and restore the contacts to get it to work.

The jacks are really weak and EASILY damaged as are the guitar inout jacks if the cables are yanked sideways.

ALWAYS loop your cables through the handle so if they are yanked they don't damage the jacks.

Erratic volume from new turntable thru used amp

First detirmine if it is only the turntable that is causing this problem, by connecting something else to another terminal. If that works fine it will be the cartridge preamp that is causing the problem. From what you describe it sounds like an IC that is playing up.
If the other device plays up as well as the turntable, I still suspect an IC, but this time in the main pre-amp. The reason I suspect an IC is that by the sound of things both channels are playing up and therefore it has to be somepart that has both channels going in and out of it- thus IC!

Is it possible to obtain a replacement pre-amp board for a yamaha hs6 organ? there is a signal coming from the board which can passed through an external guitar amp, via the left or right speaker jacks, to...

Check all the capacitors one at a time for leakage. You might also have a transistor in the preamp stage which is starting to go bad. Whatever you do though don't use the speaker output jacks of the organ as line outs into the input jack of the guitar amp. In a properly working organ you could destroy the output transformer and the input stage of your amp because most speaker outs are A.C. voltage to drive the speakers not low level D.C. which is what your amp is used to. Let me know how you make out.

My amp won't play distortion.

Hello all you have to do is turn your master volume down to just barley on then turn your pre amp volume somwhere about 2:oclock depending on how much distortion you want ajust your volume on your guitar a little past halfway to give yourself some headroom in case you need to turn up some while you are playing! just think of it as your guitar is your first pre-amp then your amp is second preamp in line ,that is your over drive ,then the master volume is how loud you want the overall volume i hope this help's ya!

The proper way of setting up a foot board to my amp and guitar

Run a jack from your guitar to Input R Mono on the pedal.
Run a jack from Output R Mono on the pedal to the input of your amplifier.
There is a switch for guitar or Bass. Put the swich on guitar
You do not need a preamp to use this pedal.
Hope this helps,
Maxx.
