I don’t think your switching the source over to HDMI. With cable you don’t need it on TV anymore. Your input needs to match the cable box such as HDMI-1 Or HDMI-2. not TV.

Go to menu or settings and make sure you are on the cable or local setting.

SOURCE: internal antenna

It sounds like the TV justs has a insufficient internal antenna system. If you can put an external antenna on this sytem do so just to test it.

SOURCE: trouble receiving local channels on TV using new Magnavox converter box

Your digital converter box probably does not have an analog pass through that allows the old analog channels to go through to the tv's analog tuner.

SOURCE: I'm adding an over-the-air antenna to my DISH

You shouldn't need to. You should get your local channels from Dish on the low channel numbers, like 2 through 70.

Need to know how to go cable free. Have TERK digital antenna

Shouldn't do, just connect the antennas into the Belling-Lee TV antenna socket at rear of set, tune channels. If you antenna won't fit, you may need an "F" connector to "Belling-Lee" converter plug. You will need an "Ordinary" Yagi VHF/UHF antenna installed though. Is that what that digital one is?

How can I receive local channels on this tv? I do not subscribe to cable and only want local tv channels. I purchased antenna, but no luck. I only get ION channels

Hi my name is Roety,
I can help you with your issue ,
all you need is an antenna then run the auto scan programming to lock in any available channels.
I roof or attic antenna would work better than an indoor antenna

I have a Samsung HL-S6186W 61" DLP HDTV I could get the hd channels over the air with an antenna before but now I can't get any thru cable without going thru my dvd recorder tuner first which degrades the...

Select TV input, Press Menu, Select Channel, in menu Antenna=Cable (for you), (then perhaps, Auto Program with Cable or Air+Cable), tweak Channel List, turn on LNA if needed, shouldn't be.
Somewhere there may be different modulations, some offset the channel a fraction and are important for channels above 13. I'm basing this on my non-cable Samsung HL-T5687.
BTW, I had an HLS until it gave trouble, paid for an upgrade to LED from bulb when I got HLT. Very pleased, until it fails. -Ken

Local TV channels drop out after a few minutes

We're still hanging on by our toenails waiting for a helpful response from FixYa. We did contact Philips tech support and they basically said that we need a new TV...so they're sending one to replace this one, and we are sending back the "old" one (that we just bought in December '08).

Digital programming for rca j26L637 I can only get the local channels in digital, how can I get the rest (ie cable channels)

I have a similar tv. Its specs. aren't clear about that point. It can get OTA digital via antenna, but my component connectors show no picture when hooked up. I guess if your cable co. sends digital signal it should work in the digital antenna input. Same one as for the OTA signals, and they claim no cable box is required.
I am awaiting any help and it may also apply to your situation.
Take care, breezelow

Akai VSG285 video - I can't tune any TV stations thru to the VCR?

This sounds like a hookup or programming problem.

The typical hookup is cable/satellite box output to VCR antenna/RF input, then VCR antenna/RF output to television input. Since you are able to watch pre-recorded tapes, the latter is already correct. There are other ways to connect, using the audio/video outputs of VCR to audio/video inputs of the TV. Older or low end TV sets may not have these connections.

If by chance you are using an outdoor antenna (not cable or satellite) then the antenna connects to VCR antenna/RF input and VCR output as above. You will also need to program the VCR into the stations- most late VCRs will scan for active channels, and program themselves to those channels.

I'm not sure of the capabilities of newer cable & sat boxes, but generally, you had to tune that box to the channel you wanted to record. The VCR is set to channel 3 or 4 depending on the output of the cable box.

Lastly, most VCRs of the last 10+ years require the remote to setup advanced functions, such as timed record, date & channel setup functions. The buttons on the VCR itself only do very basic functions, Stop/Play/Rewind/F-forward/Eject etc.

If you don't have the orig. remote, some universal remotes may be able to do advanced programming functions.
