fills up with water, does not drain, spin or aggitate

  • bardfan Jan 12, 2008

My washer fills with water and then just sits there. At first, I could make it work by bamging on the lid, but now that is not working. The machine is less than three years old. My former Whirlpool washer was 13 years old when I sold my last house and I never had a problem with it.

Same problem here. We were experiencing water not draining and then today, it wouldn't spin either. After browsing around for a little while, someone said something about the lid switch, and my husband checked it out and it was just a loose wire. Hope this helps!

Had the same problem with washer not draining at first last night, then today it wouldn't spin either. I was browsing around in here, and someone said something about a bad lid switch. My husband checked it out, and there was a loose wire in there. (Hard to get at, but if you can do it, worth it). Fixed the problem and good as new. Hope this helps!

The couplings are relatively cheap, and can be found on Ebay for under $5. Just do a search for "whirlpool coupling".

It is pretty easy to change them, only a few bolts to take the motor off. The hard part is getting the outside covers off first!

If you're adventurous, you can do it without removing the covers and tilting the machine - but do this with extreme caution.

Sounds like a bad motor coupler. If the machine acts like its wanting to run, ie.. buzzing or humming then there is a breakdown between the motor and transmission. Replace the motor coupler to solve the problem

Kenmoore 800 washer doesn't do anything

Possible that the timer controller is faulty as it fails to switch or move in the cycle of the program
Use WD 40 to clean the switch, the knob can be replaced if this turns loose.

Washer will not cycle

The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

My GE WCSR2090D top load washer has flooded our house in the past, and when looked at by a repair man he said nothing seemed wrong... so we continued to use it and it now leaks/floods only once in every...

You might have a partially clogged drain past your drain hose
(In the wall etc)
Thats overflowing behind the washer.
Watch the drain for a few washings and see if it overflows
It may be second or third or fifth load. Its hard to catch

Washer won't act right

Most likely this is a problem with the main cycle knob, if for some reason the knob is not fully pulled
out, it just won't work, only fills with water, and the timer is the responsible one for the draining, but
the timer itself is not at fault, have your main knob selector switch checked.
