Toshiba Satellite A665 S6067 laptop wont recognize my SeaGate FreeAgent Go 500 Gb. device

I had a similar problem and I had to "Delete Volume" when in DIsk Management. I then had a choice to "Create Simple Volume" which I did, and then a wizard created the correct partitions and assigned a drive letter to my external drive. Everything was them OK.

My seagate freeagent go 500mb cannot be recognized by my laptop. using sea tools windows scanning for supported drives is taking such a long time as the ext drive cannot be detected by the laptop.

Have you got any drivers installed for Free Agent? If you have an older OS you will need to insert a system disc for the Drive, or else it won't recognise it.

My hard disk drive does not respond or show up in My computer when plugged in.Its a seagate 1 tb with those lights in front which usually light up when connected but even that doesnt happen when i plug it...

First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check. Try your harddrive in different computer if it is not recognized on another computer too then your harddrive has internal issue.

After Seagate device not recognized, all flash drives gave troubl

even tho you have AV software installed , I wouldn't write it off so easily. Download and run Malwarebytes from

Usb device not recognized

try connecting your phone to a USB 2.0 port.
Some older computers give this error. If you can find a newer laptop to try and plug it in it may recognize it. As far as a driver goes, with Windows XP or Vista you shouldn't need a driver disk at all. It is more like a compatibility issue than a software problem.

My laptop doesn't detect the external hard drive

Hi there
hey if you are not getting it to recognizing the drive on system startup use your set up disk if you have it if not go to device manager and scan for hardware change and see if it can be found there if not try going into the bios and ensure that the usb ports are enabled and that the plug and play is enabled also you also need to ensure that the device is compatable with your pc i would check with the manufacture of the computer best regards mike

External Harddrive Ignorance...

I've seen this happen with hubs being connected to external hard drives before.

Do you have a free usb port on the back of your computer you can plug it into?

That should fix the problem.
