The sauce I was making started leaking and splashing all over the place while it jumped around.

sounds like the idle speed sensor,if your rpm's are idling up and down

Your problem sounds as if the thermo sensor....which controls the air
fuel ratio when engine is cold....is faulty. It is a common fault on
this model.
This is not an expensive part, and takes only a short time to fit.
Good luck

Just spinning the engine will not fix the problem. You need to know whether you are getting fuel or whether you are getting spark.
The fuel is easy. Get a can of starting fluid and briefly spray into the air cleaner 1 squirt and then try to crank the vehicle. If there is an attempt to run, you have fuel problems. If it does not attempt to run try 1 more squirt. No run means you have no spark.
It can mean there is a problem with the firing system, like timing belts or chain, or a dead coil. Your car may have Relays for both the fuel pump and the ignition.
Go to Autozone.com and register your car for free, then download the chassis wiring diagrams and fusebox layouts. Find the Relays. If you have no fuel, check the fuel relay. If you have no spark, check the Ignition relay. On American cars, the horn relay is often the same part number as the Ignition relay or the Fuelpump relay and can be switched.
The horn can be used as a test for the other 2 relays to find the bad one.
I hope my solution is helpful.
