you don't say how big the card is, my guess is its bigger than 2 gig which is the maximum allowable size for that camera.

I've had the same problem. First, insure your contacts on the sim card is clean. Next, turn your camera on and snap one single picture. Then you should be able to reformat your card.

You may use any size SD card. Bear in mind that SD cards max out at 2GB. Larger cards are actually SDHC cards and won't work in the Z1.

The Z6 works with MMC and SD cards. Your 8GB card is actually an SDHC card. While SDHC cards will fit into SD slots, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use MMC or SD cards, 2GB and smaller.
