Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on. Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?" prompt appears. Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. This resets all your location settings and user preferences.

If you are the legitimate owner, you can send your unit back to Garmin to be unlocked. Be prepared to provide rock-solid proof of ownership because Garmin has a program that prevents stolen units from ever working again. It's one of the reasons that I purchased it. As word gets out that you cannot unlock a stolen unit, thieves will be deterred from stealing them in the first place. And if you try to open the unit to see if there is any easy jumper or something, you will permanently destroy it.

This is easy. You have to run your software, select the maps tap and then transfer maps to the device. Chances are good you uploaded a 2009 map on top of the 2008 map. The updater doesn't delete maps.
Your unl file only has one key, you have two maps loaded. Simple go into the garmin directory and delete the map file and the mapsupp file. You can easily find them because they are greater than 500 mb.
Then run mapinstall (google for the file). This will install your most current map to the Nuvi. You are back in business.

I would reset the whole unit to factory specs & then load map.

I think the true purpose of the pin is for another income stream to garmin they want $110 to unlock it. If not then why not just register a pin when you register for the warranty then just use your MY GARMIN to get it when you need it???
