We have 5 Motorola MC3190 scanners 3 of which are working properly while 2 are not despite making their settings exactly like the other 3. The faulty 2 can get IP address quite alright from the DHCP server but cannot ping any pc on the LAN and as such cannot connect to the server which they are supposed to be connected to. Upon close examination, I've noticed that besides having the IP address from the DHCP server they also have APIPA address and I strongly believe this is the reason they are failing to connect to LAN.

that is right the access point does not have a dhcp server. that will give an ip address to all of your computers or device connected to it wireless. If you have a modem with a dhcp server there will be no problem with the IP but if the modem does not you must have a router and now an access point.

Recently I purchased an Vostro 1310 for my mother as her Inspiron 1100 was dying; I installed all the drivers everything was peachy but frustratingly enoguh I could not connect to our home modem -
I alleviated this issue by taking it off obtain ip address automatically.
Then I put the following data in
IP 10.0.0.3
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 10.0.0.138
DNS preffered 10.0.0.138
Alternate Blank
I had to assign the laptop an IP as you can see and point it in the right direction which was to my modem. So all you need to do is find his modems default path and it should be sweet.
After I applied these changes it had no issues connecting - It might be a conflict of ip assigning on the network.
Before you rate get back to me if it didn't work - I want to help you solve this issue and get a Fix Ya! rating ;)

Hmm... on your DHCP server, try setting the "default router" IP for each pool to be the VLAN ID on the switch.
scope 172.16.0.0 /24
router 172.16.0.1
scope 10.20.8.0 /22
router 10.20.8.1
I think the DHCP replies aren't going back where they should. I've never done this without a router doing all the DHCP, but it does work and i've done it many times. Your config looks spot on for the switch.

it seems that ur PC & cable modem configuration is ok, now the problem is with ur router WAN interface configuration. the problem would be one out of 2 - first to check whether ur router wan interface is configured properly to obtain IP address from DHCP (if possible, u can give the static ip address with same series as cable modem) second to check with ur ISP.
