Printhead should be cleaned with a 90% alcohol solution, however that should not cause blurry print. I've seen some labeling programs that will blur part of your label after the trial period has expired. I would check to see if this happens on test prints also. Do a test print by holding down the button on power up and letting it go after the first blink.
Some CD label software allow you to adjust the "overprint" by resizing the image you are printing. If your software doesn't allow you to size your image larger than the label (so it overlaps) try a different program. Look for a setting that allows it to over print. It's not an exact science...you just have to try to make the adjustments you need. There are also different CD/DVD label sheet types where the labels are setup on the sheet differently. maybe a different setup may work better. However, usually Avery is pretty good.
On the subject of <a href="http://www.selfadhesivelabels.com/label-printing.html">label printing</a>, i actually get all my labels printed by a british labels company for a really low price. If anyone is at all interested then it may be worth taking a look at their website as they do all types of label printing.
