Widnows doesnt recognize maybe corrupted? not sure

Yesterday my drive worked great. Today i got back and it was not vibrating / working like when its on. I turned it on and it started beeping and then stopped after awhile. Windows sees in as a USB mass external drive but does recognize it as a disk drive anymore. Instead of working / vibrating it does nothing. Is it a hardware issue or corrupted. I would assume if it was corrupted that the files would be there and it would still be recognized as a drive

    Hi ,

I have Fantom external USB hard drive of 250GB capacity with external power supply. It was working fine. But recently, when I start the power supply, the green light on the power supply is fine.BUt the moment the hard disk is switched on ,it makes noise about 5-6 times (blue light at this time), but then it stops the noise and red light is shown. Also windows does not detect the har drive. PLease suggest some solution so that windows can detect and i can get my data back.

    Thanks

    Aarti

Galigul is correct. Try going through process of elimination. Try another known good working computer with good USB ports that another device is working. try it there and check if it works. If it works there, then problem is isolated to your computers' USB port or ports. Try a known good working USB device on your computer and check if it works or has the same problem. From there, you'll be able to determine if the problem is hardware related or software device drivers or Operating system conflicts.
If problem is with the software device drivers, try updating your Windows.

Hey there - I should know whether it has an external power supply - Please give me the model. I think that it should be a hardware problem yet I need more inforamtion regarding your device and computer in general.

If the external drive does not have an external power supply and does not respond on your system try it on others. Once it worked on others - it's either a driver problem or a usb socket problem. If it does not work on others I assume it should be a hardware problem.

I just bought the Portable Super Multi Drive from LG GP08 Lite. On the back of the box, it says that it's compatible with Mac OS X v.10.5.4 or higher, which I have, so it should work. However, when I...

Hi there! First we have to make sure the drive has power. As soon as it is plugged in and turned on (if it has a switch) you should feel it vibrating lightly. Once you feel it vibrating and it is plugged into the computer go to your Applications folder, then to Utilities. In there is a program called Disk Utility. Open it and in the column on the left you should see your drive listed. Click it and select "Erase" from the tabs on the right. Make sure that you select "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" for the Filesystem then click "Erase." Should work great after that. Keep in mind that if there was any data on it then it will be erased by doing this. If you do not see the disk in the column on the left, then the drive is most likely bad and should be returned.

I have an Iomega external hard drive but my Acer Aspire One will not recognize the drive. It worked yesterday but today it is not recognizing the drive.

Hi

I guess that you have connected the external hard drive via a usb

have you tried plugging it into another usb

if it were not the case that it was working yesterday i would of said make sure the jumpers on the external hard drive are not set to master either take off completely or set to slave

hope this helps

Open the external hard drive cover, remove the hard disk inside, and fix it back. Try again and let's see what happens.

If it still does not work, insert the external drive into the computer, feel the hard drive if it spins/vibrate from inside or if it makes a cracking noise.

If it spins/vibrate, it means the hard disk is still working. In that case, you have to get another external drive case/cover.

But if it makes cracking noise, then it means the hard drive is damaged and you need to get another one.

Take care

Mother board or CpU Doesnt work. technician said I have a ghost inside my CPU!

verify your bios settings with regards to what the pc is expecting in way of hard drive.
Do you have the luxury of another hard drive that you can try on this pc ? - this will 'suggest' where the problem rests.
Make sure the lead is fully located on the back of hard drive.
If possible - change the lead for a 'known working' lead (Maybe from the computer that your hard drive was recognized in)
