I am not sure what you mean by Fixya making Firefox no longer work. Fixya does not install anything on your computer or in your web browser.
If you have installed the Ask toolbar or maybe some other extensions recently, you could try uninstalling and see if that solves the issue. You could also try reinstalling Firefox altogether.
If you can reply with a comment below with additional details I will be more than happy to help you troubleshoot further, but I am positive Fixya did not cause Firefox to no longer work.

I know Firefox has a built-in spellchecker. I don't know which version of IE has that feature... if you're using IE make sure you've updated to the newest version. If that doesn't work I would just install Firefox.
