SOURCE: Makita MAC2200 runs fine (with new Manifold Switch

I have worked on many makita compressors and have run-across this problem on a few of them. Your compressor has a check valve that is supposed to hold tank pressure after the switch reaches set pressure. There is an unloader valve built into the pressure switch that releases the pressure in the discharge hose after the unit shuts off. The unloader allows the compressor to restart with-out any pressure in the discharge line. If the brass check valve is leaking pressure back into the system, air will leak out of the unloader valve. Follow the discharge line to the tank and you will see the brass check valve. To test valve for fault, run the compressor till it builds around 80 psi and unplug the unit from the wall outlet. Remove the 1/4" hose connector from the check valve and check for air leaking out of the valve. If it is leaking you can order form www.toolpartsdirect.com. or call the makita 1-800 number. The price is about the same. Good Luck on your repair.

SOURCE: Craftsman air compressor spitting sparks behind fan

If it is an oil type make sure it has oil. If it is the dry type you need a new compressor.

SOURCE: Makita MAC700 pressure switch won't power on?

Pressure switches do not have reset buttons built in. The reset button is usually attached to the frame or cover and marked with amp rating. The pressure switch only responds to pressure in the tank. There is however a switch incorporated in the cover or on one side of the switch. Usually a red button that you pull, red or black switch/knob/lever to turn on top or side. If on/off switch broke off in the off postion, the compressor will act as yours does. Try to find a picture of your switch on ebay using the brand name or shape /look and determine where the switch should be positioned. If the switch is broken or fallen off /lost, replace the pressure switch with generic. Usually about $18. Pay attention to port size, number of ports and pressure cut-out. Good luck

Pressure drops significantly before compressor starts

Some pressure switches can be adjusted with an allen wrench. You can't get more pressure from the regulator knob of the pressure isn't in the tank. look at the pressure switch with the cover off. If you see a screw with a spring around it. turn it clock wise 1/4 turn at a time until 125 is reached. The motor will labor more, so 2 hp may not be enough.

How to put the pressure switch back together?

Without having a look myself its a little difficult to know where the black plastic plate comes from. There are so many tiny parts in those things.

But normally when you have air coming from the pressure switch, it usually comes from the check valve, that is located at the other end of the pipe which attaches from the pressure switch to the tank, where it fixes to the tank, is where the check valve is. When there is no pressure in the tank, unscrew it, clean it up or replace it, then that should solve your air leak.

As for the pressure switch, either you need an exploded view of it so you can see where the plate goes, or you may have to replace it altogether

My Makita air compressor will not adjust to a lower pressure. I am putting cedar shakes on the house and I dont want the nails to push so hard in the shakes. When I adjust the nob in the minus (-)...

It sounds to me like your regulator is shot. It is the knob you have been turning in the (-) direction. The gauge reading 120 is the regulated pressure and the gauge reading 130 should be the tank pressure. You can find a new regulator from any Ace Hardware store.

Will sometimes trip breaker when starting

Your compressor may not be unloading completely. Check for leak at intank check valve. Follow the airline from pump to tank. Remove the airline from he brass valve, with air in the tank spray soapy water to check for leak, replace as needed. If no leak the examing the pressure switch where 1/4 tubing connects. There you will find a small lever that opens a stem to unload air from airline. You can test the function by running the pump then switching off at the pressure switch, listen for release of air. If works ok then not enough power is reaching the compressor. Use very little or no cord and do not overload plug with other tools.

Takes a long time to fully charge

Not normal. You possibly have bad rings on your piston, or some wear on the cylinder walls. The best solution is generally to have a competent shop do a rebuild and reseal on the unit... it will cost a little bit, but the guarantee on their work can save you some cash if it starts acting up again.

Locks up on restart untill the pressure. is down around 50 lbs.and kicks out the breaker

The pressure bleed valve is not working when the compressor shuts off. It is supposed to drain pressure from the compressor air line to the check valve and pressure regulator switch so that the compressor restarts with low pressure in the output line.
