Convergence adjustments on tv dont work

The convergence is adjusted with the remote by entering a tech menu and adjusting there====if convergence is really bad adjustments are not going to fix it.

The set should have in customer menu a limited convergence adjustment with up to nine points where you can adjust---if it will not adjust there in some way----convergence circuit needs repair.

(5) Stretched Image at top and bottom edge very distorted. Reheat all the surface mount solder points on the Small Signal Board. Then realign the set including convergence menu. It looks like your TV has developed a failure due to a hardware malfunction. The hardware that failed are mark STK392-040 and will need to be replace to restore the proper functionality of your TV.
Do you have any experience with hand tools such as soldering iron and or using a multimeter?
If you do, this repair can be a DIY; keeping in mind that you will have to disconnect the TV from the AC power before start working around the circuitry. I would suggest to leave unplug for about a day just to let the capacitors discharge the energy store in them.

This tv have a problems call convergence,it dead.The tv convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead.These parts must be replaced to solved convergence problems.The shop will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.

Your TV most likely has a Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

• Colors don't line up

Solution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.

The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.

no you cant do that.in service mode you dont have that option for this tv.you only have this option at projection tv-s

Replaced the ICs. Was disappointed at first 'cause it was still all bowed out, but then realized that the Convergence 2 "target" can be changed with the number keys. Working thru 1-9 and going back to readjust as necessary adjusted each one into perfect alignment.

Problem solved. TV works great.

I should add that while I am reasonable technically adept, I am a software geek and never soldered before... hardest part was getting up the courage to dive in and do it myself. Glad I did.

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.



You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

The convergence adjustment on the TV set are for the center adjustments ONLY. if you cannot get them in or they are way out, then you have a convergence IC problem. Dont feel bad though as it happens to every rear projection set ever made. Good Luck
