I have a Sanyo lcd tv, not sure of the model. Purchased within last 5 years. I have a strange intermitten problem with the sound. On a few cable channels, I lose the sound, but during commercials it plays, but not always. Then the sound will come back. I have both cable and satellite, when I switch to satellite, it sounds fine - I never lose sound from satellite, and not all cable channels are affected. My living room cable channels are fine. At first I thought it was my remote device, but found no setting that may have been set by accident. Then the next day, the problem may not be present at all. It's driving me crazy. Please help

You could check to see if Samsung has a Firmware upgrade for this issue at their Consumer web site. Doubt it will fix your problem though. Are you using a wired LAN connection? If so then check it and make sure it is not loose, or that your router has not been powered off. If all checks good, or you are not using a wired LAN connection you will need to replace the main board. I can not give you a part number because you did not include your model number in your complaint. I hope this helps.
You have a back light issue. Sometimes it's cheaper to get another one. Tcon board failure most likely. If you can find a rv repair or electronics repair they might do the work but as you got 5 years from it. Most TV sets fail in less time than that.
If you are receiving the signal from the same cable service provider rather than through an antenna, I would suspect the cable service is having a problem with its retransmission of the ABC channel in that suburb. I don't know if Australia is still broadcasting analog TV signals or if ABC is digital, but if the latter, perhaps the receivers are having trouble decoding the sound format identifier information. This could be something as subtle as a timing tolerance issue or as crude as noise or low signal level on the cable that has the receivers operating at the margin of sensitivity.
Check and make sure you have the composite cable (5 color cable) connected correctly and you have the NTSC/PAL set to NTSC (north american if applies) If you have a audio out (r/wh) cable into the RGB inputs on the TV, itll knock out a color or chroma channel and itll look strange.
Hi,
Probably you first have to determine if the "no sound" is the TV or your source (cable box). Try another source such as a DVD player hooked to the audio/video inputs of the TV, if still no sound then you have confirmed that it is the TV, if there is sound, then it is the cable box (in some cases it may be just the cables connecting the cable box and the TV; try wiggling it a bit, might just be loose).
If it is the TV, go through the routine of the setup/menu; look for audio, stereo, SAP, etc, try different settings (pls log down original setting in case no change and you have to revert back).
If all else fails, try the "thump test" this will help you determine if its a loose/cold solder problem inside the TV. Give your TV a good whack at the side, top or back, if sounds comes on even briefly, it's a loose/cold solder problem, if not then you probably have to have the unit serviced by a qualified professional.
Good luck and kind regards.
It seems like this problem would have to be with the picture tube itself, although I have never run into this symptom in over 30 years of servicing TV's. If the CRT is still in warranty I would get it checked out. Otherwise it probably not be worth repairing. If you end up replacing the set, check out the Toshiba 24" model. I have had good luck with that model in the past.
