Update your bios from the dell website searching your computer "update bios c610".
Newer memory has that problem, I am having it too with a c600 and inspiron 2500 and was told to update the bios by installing the download while the system is still working on the old ram, then re-boot with new ram.

As the computer boots, it detects the additional memory and automatically updates the system configuration information
where did you get the memory?
If it is in properly and does't work,it is either bad or the wrong part number for your Dell C610

Is the new memory excactly the same as the original one?

The Dell Latitude C610 uses PC-133 SDRAM SODIMM type memory and has 2 bank(s) of 1 socket(s) each for a total of 2 memory socket(s) . The Dell Latitude C610 comes standard with 128MB of RAM and supports up to 1GB of RAM Your system does not support ECC. Because ECC and non-ECC modules should not be mixed within a system, install the same type of modules that are already in your system.

If it still doesnt work. Take back the stick you got and get another. Yes, sometimes memory slips past inspection.

I have a dell c610 laptop, and want to put in a 3d graphics card, what do you recommend and can it be replaced?

because this is a laptop you can only upgrade a couple things, and video is not one of them. You can upgrade memory or install a bigger hard drive but that is all the options you get.

In the bios there is an option to install OS, make sure this is flaged as off, when you reboot you will have access to the full amount of onboard ram.
