check in your drive option run the disk tools

Dear, It looks like issue with the the hardisk module (mostly the interface board inside the box). You can still try by connecting to different pc or by changing the USB cable

back up your drive s data and use quick format ..it will not ask any further.

If you want to move itunes to an extrnal driver, ..plug in the external, click my computer..open the local driver, look for " my music icon" and scroll it to the extenal driver icon...or right click the " music and where it says save..save to external driver.

Hi There, Don't know if this will help ?. I have My Book Ess-Edit 500. I bought it six months ago. (it has a blue light which moves up & down when on) Anyway here goes. you don't have to safely remove my book as it turns on & off with your PC. Was your pc on when you pulled the plug? IF SO YOU MAY BE IN THE S***. with my book turned on, Try from start xp / flag Vista. / Computer/ highlight WD mybook / right clik open, in list you should see whats on your my book, folders & so on.
(you seem to be looking for your pic's). highlight folders/ right clik open/ you can restore a file from the list by, again highlight/ then right click/ from list pick (send to) Documents. From there you can copy / paste to pictures. Hope this helps ? Steve 105

Open up My Computer and see if there is a new hard drive listed there. It should be automatically detected by your computer, you just need to know where to find it.

try to install the cd that comes with the hard drive. Vista was installing generic drivers that might not work with your drive.

Hi guys...
I had kind of the same problem like u...when i plugged it into the usb all i got was a "unknown usb device found"
I opened the external case hoping the hdd was still ok only to find out that the hdd cables had been moved slightly out of position..propably from a fall or a knock I didn't even noticed..
I just pressed them back in..click..and everything was back to normal..
