Hi, go to the Setup menu, then to System, then USB Mode. You can select either MSC or Auto; try MSC first. I've noticed the same problem with my computer, and I can get around it by changing that setting. If it doesn't work on MSC then switch to Auto. Worth a try!
you do need software for getting videos on it, just follow this link http://www.cobyusa.com/?p=prod&prod_num_id=98&pcat_id=1001 and get the video converter on the "Downloads" tab, if you want pictures, just make sure they are jpeg or gif and drag nd drop them to your mp3 player
