Is 142 over 60 normal blood pressure for 72 year old male

  • Deborah
    Deborah Mar 02, 2019

From Harvard Medical School; Last year, new guidelines from the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, and nine other health organizations lowered the numbers for the diagnosis of hypertension (high blood pressure) to 130/80 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) and higher for all adults. The previous guidelines set the threshold at 140/90 mm Hg for people younger than age 65 and 150/80 mm Hg for those ages 65 and older.

From the CDC; High blood pressure can harden your arteries, which decreases the flow of blood and oxygen to your heart and lead to heart disease. In addition, decreased blood flow to the heart can cause:

Chest pain, also called angina.Heart failure, a condition when your heart can’t pump enough blood and oxygen to your other organs.Heart attack, which occurs when the blood supply to your heart is blocked and heart muscle begins to die without enough oxygen. The longer the blood flow is blocked, the greater the damage to the heart. The Brain

High blood pressure can burst or block arteries that supply blood and oxygen to the brain, causing a stroke. Brain cells die during a stroke because they do not get enough oxygen. Stroke can cause serious disabilities in speech, movement, and other basic activities, and a stroke can kill you.

The Kidneys; Adults with diabetes, high blood pressure, or both have a higher risk of developing chronic kidney disease than those without these diseases. Approximately 1 of 3 adults with diabetes and 1 of 5 adults with high blood pressure have chronic kidney disease

I recommend making an appointment wirh your Doctor, he has the whole picture of your health! Hope this helps!

I wouldn't trust answers on this site with a personal health question. You may want to try a medical website.

Not really. If that were my blood pressure I'd see my doctor (or a walk in clinic) PDQ, but not run to the ER.

SOURCE: I am a 73 year old male with COPD and broncatise. what would be the normal blood pressure be.thank you

Ideally an average of 135/85 is good, but you might not have that. With this situation it is likely your BP does need management. In your age group any hypertension is a risk because the old plumbing isn't as good as it used to be.

Get along to a doctor and tell all, about diet, smoking, alcohol, other drugs you take, exercise or lack of it etc. The doc may order blood tests to get a complete picture, and even maybe a bit of cardiac testing if you've never had that.

Lest you think I'm sermonising, I'm 69 and when I went to check all that stuff, hypertension and diabetes 2 were revealed, but my heart was still OK, so I hope to live a bit longer, and so should you too. Good luck.

@130/80 either up or down a bit is ok. You can increase the top value by stressing so its the lower value that is monitored more closely.

Blood pressure 99 over 60 is that normal?

If that is the constant Blood pressure, then no the "Normal" blood pressure is between More than 120 over 80 and less than 140 over 90 and it can be problematic if blood pressure drops below 90 over 60.

What is normal blood pressure for 75years old MALE

Averagely, normal blood pressure is any figure below 120/80 meaning chances of stroke and heart attack is minimal. Anything above 140/90 is considered dangerous so for a 75 year old male the marginal difference can be considered okay.

What is a normal blood pressure for a 72 year old male

talk with your doctor as blood pressure readings vary between patients, weights , age and health conditions
always have your blood pressure done by the doctor as that will give a record of any variations that could be harmful
at this point it seems slightly high but the bigger concern is the diabetes and what ever the heart condition is
again consult with your doctor and get a proper diagnosis

What is "Normal" blood pressure for 71 year old male

Normal under perfect conditions is 120/80. Age can raise I little as veins and arteries harden some and accumulate plaques and stuff though.
you should aim for 120/80mmHg though for normal size and weight.

What range show my BP be in. 50 year old black

There isn't really a normal blood pressure, there is a continuum of blood pressures among ppl at any age (for example, 50). By age 50, about 1/2 of Americans will have a blood pressure that is higher than what cardiovascular disease prevention guidelines have set as targets.
The goal blood pressure for a 50 year old person without any other medical issues is <140/90. People at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease have correspondingly lower blood pressure targets. People with kidney disease, diabetes or prediabetes (also known as metabolic syndrome), and those with known cardiovascular disease (heart failure or previous heart attack) should have a target blood pressure of <130.80.
