SOURCE: trying to hook up laptop with haier tv using vga

Dod you use HOTKEYS on the laptop to tell it to send the signal the VGA outlet of the laptop? The hotkeys function can be set to turn off the laptop screen and only have external monitor to be the only display or it can be set to have both of them on.

Yes you are correct as it is only HD ready and likely will not work as you are trying to use it.

I have a toshiba laptop with bad screen.I would like hook up external monitor as a primary monitor

Laptops dating back some 10yrs ago had VGA ports on them. Unless your Toshiba is a dinosaur, it should also contain the VGA port. From this port, you could hook up an external desktop style monitor and still use your laptop.

I want to connect my dell inspiron 1525 to my lcd hd ready tv but have no idea how to? Does anyone have any advice?

The 1525has a a hdmi port which you can plug a hdmi cord into. This may not support the audio. the tv and pc should detect the new monitor automatically or you may have to toggle it by hitting F4 key.

I just hooked up my HP Pavilion 9000 Laptop to my Vizio TV and put the TV on correct setting. It is not working on the TV, any ideas? I went on Display setup and kept trying to connect but it says the...

If your laptop has a VGA port, your Vizio needs to have a VGA port too so you can use a standard VGA monitor cable.

If your laptop has a DVI port, you hook it up to the Vizio using a DVI-to-HDMI cable.

And if your laptop has an HDMI port, you hook it up using a standard HDMI cable.

Hope this helps.

The monitor turns on and connects to my computer then turn off but the power stays on. any ideas?

Make sure the external VGA port on your laptop is enabled. Not all laptops automatically detect a monitor connected and turn on the port. There will be a function key somewhere on the keyboard to control the port. Location varies by manufacturer and model. The usual sequence when you press the key is: laptop display on and external VGA off, laptop off and VGA on, both on.

Hooking up a laptop

You must enable the monitor output. This is a function combination. Look for the key with the diagram of a screen on it. Usually the first pressing turns on the monitor as well as the screen, the second leaves the monitor on and turns off the screen, the third brings it back to standard (screen only).

Toshiba laptop won't work with new optoma projector

-toggle the laptop display using the FN keys and F5 I believe. -lower laptop resolution to 800 x 600 -look in laptop display properties for lcd or external display settings, see if it (external crt) has to be enabled on the laptop first.
