Mechanism which locks the wheel on the end of the shank. I've gotten the old one out by pinching the end but can't get the new one in all the way. Afraid to push too hard lest I break something. Is there a trick?

SOURCE: 1995 Toyota Celica Front Wheel Hub
The same thing happened to my 95 Celica, the first mechanic or suspension shop replaced the front wheel bearings and about a month later the noise was back. I took it to another shop and they said that the bearing were bad because the base of the spindle assemble, where the bearing sits, was wallowed out. They replaced it and the bearings and all is good. I would have them check the spindle assembly.
SOURCE: Need wheel bearing replacement
unfortunately your bearing assembly is a sealed unit and you have to purchase it as a complete part. they do have a way to change out the bearing at a shop, however the labor cost involved would most certainly be alot more than a replacement it's self. I have come across this problem many times and it's not as easy to switch them out as you have been told. i hope this helps. (note) to repalce them on your vehicle if you don't do the work yourself have a small shop do it not a dealer shop. the cost will be alot less. the labor time should be no more than 2 hrs. that is roughly about no more than 120- 150 dollars for the labor . if the place you take it to quotes you way more than that take it somewhere else... good luck please rate this
SOURCE: Front wheel stud replacement for a 2006 Hyundai Sonata GL.
grind a flat spot on the round head of the new stud this should give enough clearance to install it. don't pull the hub this will damage the bearing.
SOURCE: cannot get the hub off to replace rotors
the rotors should be on the hub behind the wheel... you will have to remove the brake caliper and it should just pull off... may be a few clips on the wheel stud
