Hi,

Go to the Dell support website and enter your serve tag or express service code, This will bring you to the software for your specific machine. Download fresh drivers for the touchpad, see if this resets it.

Also check the touchpad under Control Panel or Dell Utilities, and see if somehow those features or buttons were disabled.

If neither of these options work you will need to bring it to a local PC shop and they will reconnect or replace the touchpad and/or keyboard if they are attached in your model.

If they have to replace the parts they will probably get them from Ebay so if you are so inclined and they tell you they need the parts, you can get them yourself and possibly save a buck or two.

Hope this helps, I also do this type of work the CT area so if you are around there and need the service, let me know I am reasonably priced, industry certified, have passed all the Dell factory tests, and I am happy to help.

Good Luck !!

Jim

How do I enable my scroll bar on the keypad??

I trust that you understand that scroll bars are only visible if more than 1 page is to be displayed. If you have magnified a particular page, the scroll bar may be outside the view of the screen - on the right side, Scroll to the left until you see the right border.
Perhaps you are referring to the touchpad.
The scroll feature on the touch pad is not visible. You enable the touchpad by tapping twice on the upper left corner of the touchpad. A lite will appear in that corner when the touchpad is ON.
Then the scrolling feature is enabled on the right side of the touchpad. Simply run your finger up and down the right side of the touchpad. For more information, refer to the User Guide here:

Touchpad must be continually tapped to make scroll bar scroll up or down

Different laptop uses different type of touch pads. If your's an old laptop, that may not have a scroll function by simply sliding your finger through the right edge(top to bottom and vise versa) to scroll to a desired level. A new laptop has all these functions. Go to the control panel click on classic view in the left pane in case of xp and vista. Then you can see the mouse icon.click on it and select the device setting tab. then click on setting and a new window will open. There click on scrolling and click on one finger scrolling you can see the scrolling properties. tick mark the vertical and horizontal scrolling boxes. click apply then ok and close all the way. Thats it All done. Hope it helps

The up and down scroll of the touchpad on my acer aspire 5630 with windows vista is not working

Click Start/Control Panel andlook for the Mouse and open it to check the mouse properties. Make sureyou don't have the touchpad disabled.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad on or off by clicking on thebutton that is located at the top of the touch pad in the middle.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad by tapping twice in the upperleft hand corner of the touchpad.

Some models will require a keystroke to toggle the touchpad. Press andHold the ALT or FN function key located at the lower left portion of thekeyboard, then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The correct key tohit will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square that represents thetouchpad.

Download and reinstall the touch pad drivers.Get online and got towww.google.com In the google search box type: "Dell Support"(without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Lookfor downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system whenrequested. Download and install the Touchpad drivers.

My cursor moves as i type what can i do

You seem to be brushing against the touch pad while you're typing. You need to adjust the sensitivity of that touch pad:
Click on the "Start" icon in the lower left corner of the screen. Select "Control Panel." Next select "Mouse" under "Hardware and Sound." You can also left-click the touchpad while the cursor is anywhere on the desktop. From that screen, choose "Mouse Pointers." Select the "Buttons" tab at the top of the dialog box that opens. This shows the type of touchpad device installed on your laptop. Set the touchpad for right or left-handed use from this dialog box. You can adjust the double click speed of your computer as well. When you finish making any changes, click "Apply." Pick the "Device Settings" tab from the dialog box now. You can see the touchpad for your Vista machine highlighted on this screen. Select "Settings." Read the information provided in the next dialog box. It gives you options for tapping your touchpad, using the buttons, scrolling, pointer motion and sensitivity. Make any changes you want from the various topics. When you make a change, click "Apply." Click "OK" when you finish making all your changes. Do some work on your computer for a while. If the touchpad is still too sensitive, return to the "Mouse" menu and continue to adjust the settings until you get them just the way you want them.

Screen zooms in on IE or any ms office application

Go into the control panel and change the settings for the touch pad if that is what you seek. You can modify right and left clicks, scroll settings, etc. I hope this helps.

My scroll feature on the touch pad on my alienware 7700 quit scrolling. when i touch the screen and start scrolling a scrolling icon shows on the screen but no scroll

I've seen this before and I think I know what might have happened.

Of course, I'm guessing, so bear with me.

during an update from Windows website, the touchpad drivers were updated. This was done, in all likelihood, without your knowledge.

Find the touchpad in the Device manager (I'm guessing you know your way around a computer) and look at the properties.

Then, roll back the driver and restart.

good luck.

That's a sign that the synaptic touch pad needs to be replaced. Eventually they wear out.

Touch pad issues

Next time you try scrolling on the touch pad, also push down (really) hard on the touch pad(kind of like you're squeezing the player). Keep doing this, and you may get it working. I've dropped mine a few times, and this push/squeeze/scroll seemed to work.
