SOURCE: sending a fax
pick up a plain old telephone. Dial the number to which you are trying to fax. Do you get a busy signal? Does the (other) fax machine answer?
Plug that phone into the phone jack to which you have the fax machine plugged into... do you have dial tone?
Is the fax number valid?
do you have to dial a one or some other sequence of numbers to "get where you're going"?
Reseat connectors going from Fax machine to wall jack...

unplug machine, press and hold the "stop/clear" key and while holding key down, plug machine back in and continue to hold the button for 5 seconds. that should take care of problem.

Better check the connection at the back of your printer. This is the most common problem encounter when faxing...wrong connection.
1. when using the printer as fax, the line input should be connected properly to the "L" input at the back of the printer
2. The rj11 connector of the phone should be connected at the back of the printer with telephone label in it
I hope that helps.
