GE JVM1790SK01 Microwave Over the Counter Touchpad stopped working.

Tried the ribbon re-insert, didn't work. Tried the door wiggle, it worked. The turned it off. When I tried to test the vent fan, it won't work again, even after I did another door wiggle. Any advice?

If this is a standard plug & recepticle check that terminals on the recepticle are tightend down firmly, if it is hard wired from a junction box check wire nuts behind cover.

SOURCE: GE spacemaker Profile XL1800 vent fan will not shut off

It may be a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel, such as a sticky relay.

I would suspect a sticky relay first, but the door switches should be checked.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

If you need your control panel assembly (smart board) repaired, we do that for $39.95 nationwide.

SOURCE: GE Microwave oven vent fan not working

You are correct the fan motor is either stuck or needs replaced.

There is no way to do this without removing the entire microwave. In case your not familiar with how microwaves work, there is a capacitor that is very large inside and can hold a charge even after it is unplugged for up to 24 hours, please take action to prevent getting shocked.

SOURCE: Active vent keeps opening and closing though fan is off.

When the unit begins the never ending opening and closing cycle, turn the vent fan on for a few seconds and then turn the fan off. This seems to stop the active vent from opening and closing. If this is GE quality, this is the last thing that I am going to purchase. GE refrigerators are garbage and now I am having problems with a new microwave oven.

You have a failed membrane keypad.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.
You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.

I recommend that you bookmark that link to your favorites. There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

If you would like to have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs nationwide.

But please note that for some GE models, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame.
That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

Either way, we can let you know what your options and costs would be and send you other helpful info.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me
directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Ge profile microwave oven touchpad not working

The touch pad is more than like the problem. This is common. Try removing the ribbon connector and reinserting it back in the receptacle. If this doesn't fix the problem then replace the touch pad.

I suddenly started having problems with some of the numbers on my touchpad not working on my microwave and wonder if there is a way that I can fix the problem?

If the touch pad is separate from the actual control board, you could just be looking at a bad connection between the two. If there's a ribbon cable from one to the other, it may attach to the circuit board via a connector on the circuit board. If so, you could try removing the cable from the connector, and re-inserting it. If there's no ribbon cable between the two, it is probably an electronics failure, and the entire circuit board/touch assembly would have to be replaced.

Ge microwave HVM1540DN1BB button control pad stopped working

I am not familiar with the Whirlpool microwaves; however, I just had the same problem with an LG over the range microwave. Several of the positions on the touchpad quit responding to touch. In our case, it was the touchpad itself that was the problem.

The touchpad on our microwave was held in place with adhesive. We pulled it off and replaced it with a new touchpad. Everything works now. The only complication is getting to the connector which carries the signals from the touchpad to the microwave controls. We had to remove and dissassemble the door to get to that connector.

The touchpad cost about $26.00.
