Does my iphone 3g have a dead battery or fried logic board?
My phone is completely unresponsive when not plugged in. When I plug it into a computer or wall socket, the red empty battery comes up with the charging symbol, but it never charges. If I unplug the phone while the red battery is on the screen, it 'dims' to less than 50% illumination, and slowly fades to black.
When I try to restore simply by clicking restore from itunes, i get a white screen, then the apple logo (the first time I got so excited), then about 30 seconds in, the mini spinning wheel appears for a brief second, and then the phone dies/disconnects, and I eventually get a 1604 error. I have tried every known solution I could find online, with no luck. I've concluded that at least one of the parts inside is fried, but I'm not sure where to start. Does this sound like a battery that isn't holding charge, or a completely fried logic board?
Re: Does my iphone 3g have a dead battery or fried logic...
Hello
This sounds more like a battery gone bad and a charger that's not working correctly. How much warranty do you have? I have AT&T service. My battery went bad and AT&T service said they weren't supposed to do anything about a battery but they sent me a battery and charger at no cost. Worth a try.

Plug
your iPhone into your computer or wall adapter to charge. If it does
not charge when connected to either of these, you probably have a dead
battery. The battery will need to be replaced with a new one.
Bad display
It
is possible that it appears nothing is happening because the display is
bad. If the iPhone sounds like it is working properly but nothing is
visible, it is possible the display is bad and must be replaced.
Unfortunately, the LCD and glass panel are fused together, and must be
replaced as one unit.
Bad logic board
If nothing else works, your logic board is probably bad and needs to be replaced.
please see the next steps and fix it. God bless you

Unfortunately there is not a lot of support from Apple or the jailbreak community for iphone 3g, so there isn't really anything you can do to make it operational again.
Try a different charger and to hard reset the iPhone (menu and on/off
together for 5sec). If that fails too there is a hardware issue. Apple
should give you a replacement. If you're out warranty, you can try to
open it and replace dock connector and battery. If that fails you need
a new logic board. You can get the part atiPad Repair and there is a guide that shows you how to open a kindle and install parts at iPad Repair Guide.
It surely is fixable. Is this a jailbroken iPhone?
If yes then i would almost say it has to be one of 2 things.
A. Logic board not communicating well with the battery, Usually needs a new board.
B. Battery completely dead give her a new battery.
It can only be one of those 2 probs. I honestly cn't say what causes these probs but i have seen this allot especially with jailbroken phones.
